The artist used Hokusai’s red Fuji as the reference. I wanted weather and she thought the mountain would help signify. Her style is different from the guy who has done most of my tattoos but she like him does hand poke.

I got a blastover yesterday to cover up some of the tattoos that I've been carrying around since 1998 and 2005. I'm so stoked with how this came out. I'm definitely going to go all the way around my upper arm and blastover the rest.

@seawolf I’m always blown away what a good tattooer can do in a cover up. That black work with red accents is killer!

@Mizmazzle Same! He got done with the black and asked if I wanted any red. I just said "I trust you, let's do it." and this was the result. I'm so happy with it. Now I'm thinking about how to do the rest of that upper arm.

@Mizmazzle I've been going to the same guy for a while (around 10 tattoos over 8 years), and I absolutely trust his judgement and experience. I think he has more fun when he's allowed to be free, and I think that comes through in the work.

@seawolf that tattoo looks great! Blast overs are cool! I dig it! Especially like the red. Just looks awesome and I like how you can still see the OG tattoos under it. I want to do something with a blast over in the same spot at some point.

@Oaktavia After seeing how dark the new tattoo is, I'm blown away by how light the old one is! The red was a late addition. I went in thinking we'd only do black and let the colors from the old one show through, but towards the end of the session, my tattooer asked if I'd like some color and I told him that I trusted him. This was the result. The blastover changed my old boring tattoos that I wasn't crazy about anymore into something that I love in the style that I prefer. Highly recommended.

@Oaktavia It's a lot of trust to put into someone making a tattoo. If they're not experienced enough, it could spell trouble. I have a great relationship with my tattooer, so it's really easy to hand him the keys. And not only does he do incredible work, his shop doesn't have the angsty, gruff vibes that I remember at literally every other tattoo shop I've been to. Their customer service is fantastic and all of the people he hires are superbly talented.

As a leather artisan with much lower risk, I also love when a client says "dealer's choice." I get to be free and make whatever I'm making look cool, and it's always way more fun.
