Yeah, that it would not work for me in the chest. I have an actual chest measurement of 48.5”
I just did the eco-warm wash on my washing machine no spin cycle. It’s out now drying(hang) and the chest measurement hasn’t changed. Definitely can tell the cuffs shrunk up a good bit and even looks like the arms did too so I think it worked out pretty well, but we shall see tomorrow. I typically don’t machine wash anything IH except the fatigue cloth shirts, chambray and maybe one or two other shirts but you can kind of just tell with certain pieces they just need initially that extra tumble of the wash.
-
@northsouthdenimguy great shirt, look forward to seeing fit pics.
-
I think It could still use some strategic soaking to shrink a little bit of the upper arms, but overall fits pretty good just more generous than IH of similar measurements.
-
@northsouthdenimguy It's perfect, and I would have sized the same. This is a legacy piece, and will be appreciated for many years. Congrats!
-
@northsouthdenimguy looks very solid. Mine comes tomorrow and I’m so excited
-
@northsouthdenimguy I picked up one of the denim Townes as well. It's a beautiful shirt! Wear it in good health.
-
@hgering27 nice! A couple buddies of mine also get theirs today.
-
@atm23 congrats so funny that everybody(me included) gets so excited about a shirt
️

Wild how much the fit changes with a hot wash and dry. Originally fit pretty big, but wearable so I did a soak and it shrunk a bit but not quite as much as I wanted. I hot washed and machine dried last night and now it fits exactly how I wanted
-
Looks great!
I’m debating hot washing. I still want to get a little bit out of the arm(width)but afraid it might shrink the chest and the arm length too much. I may just have to experiment a bit to get the fit dialed in exactly how I want it, but I think there’s enough room to do it.

Heh, sometimes it's the little things in life. I find that a well-made garment - that fits - is satisfying.
With all this Ship John denim shirt talk, I should bust out my red denim Townes and see if it fits these days. It's a killer shirt with great fade potential, but it's an early SJ piece and the patterning is much different than it is now. It's snug in the armpits, which I can't tell if it's the shoulder measurements or just small arm holes.
-
@northsouthdenimguy yeah its worth trying, it seems to have more so affected the length and the arm volume in my opinion. otherwise still fits great. the way I see it is if the chest has room for shrink, then it worth trying, but for me thats where I tend to have the most issues, but it was the same thing with the stripe townes I have, started out way big, and now after washes it fits perfectly
-
It’s probably a flaw in my brain or personality, but the perfect fit and feel of clothing and footwear ranks very high among the things I enjoy
It’s interesting to see how some of these makers evolve. Over the years I’ve tried quite a few that didn’t have the right fit, but I often wonder if they’ve changed or improved and if I might be missing out.
Really looking forward to the black Sashiko and the Kristofferson, hoping those fit well or I can adjust them with washing and drying as needed.
-
@northsouthdenimguy indeed. But you’re giving me some serious fomo with the sashiko mention. I’m still salty that I missed out while my payment was processing.
I look forward to the pictures.

@northsouthdenimguy agreed man, I am eagerly awaiting the sashiko and kristofferson
