Thanks Chris, I bought my SD's second hand for a really good price, and I was going to resole them at some point next year anyway. I think I'll give it a shot, will post pics when it's done.
Edit: Apologies MOD, I missed your earlier post about where I bought my SD's from…hopefully this has just answered it, ha ha.

On a side note, I was just talking to a local cobbler and moaning about having to put my Whites away for the winter, due to their single leather sole. His solution was that if I take them to him, he will bond a Vibram Commando front sole to them, which I can use through the winter, and then he will remove it for me in the spring, for the bargain price of £30 !!
Is this a good idea?
Holy cow: just today I asked my local cobbler whether she had a solution for my Grensons to have more grip on wet and snowy surfaces and she recommended the Vibram Commando sole… I'll ask her whether she's able to make it a temp feat as well, then I'll most DEF do it!..

How will the cobbler attach the Commando sole? Glue on or sew again?
I'm asking because I had recently been with my 1000 Miles to a cobbler for a similar treatment and he said it would be best to sew them on. I'm not sure that is necessary.
Is the commando sole covering the whole width of the sole or just the middle part of it? -
The sole will be attached with glue, and will cover the front portion of the boot, full width.

Got my SD's back from the local cobbler today, the job isn't top grade, but it cost me £20 and will get me through the winter before sending them back to Spokane for a proper refurb.

A) The vibram sole is slightly narrower than the old sole, what your seeing is the gap :-\
I totally agree, didn't ask for it but it's there now so…...The soles make my SD's wearable through winter, and the job isn't top notch, but it will be fine until I can get them done properly in the new year.

Thank god for that, these will be my winter boots of choice now for a (mostly) daily wear, and the brown does look absolutely shit.

The glue is strong, the pics are a bit misleading. I wasn't 100% happy with what was done, but it works and it was cheap, they'll go to Spokane for the star treatment in the spring, completely new resole, double leather rather than single.
