I handwash my first few washes, and air dry the first few times. That's just to gauge possible shrinkage… After that, everything gets regular wash cycle, with regular machine dry cycles as well. It all looks better beat-to-Hell anyway!

When i first got into raw denim i baby'd my first pair but then soon realised it was a pain in the ass and i wasn't getting any good fades. The less i give a fuck about them the better they get.

You have no idea. For awhile, we were getting a ton of posts asking "OMG! I got my jeans wet, did I ruin them?!?" and "should I get special hangers for my jeans?" and my personal favorite "how do i treat the leather patch so it doesn't explode into a shower of sparks and a cloud of smoke?" (ok, that last one was embellished, but only a little)

On the flip side of things, at one point someone got puked on and they refused to wash their jeans.

One of my favorite posts is from Mega, when he pointed out that people get raw denim to reflect their lifestyle yet they insist on having the hygiene of a turn of the century miner to get kewl fadez.

I've become very cynical after being a moderator for so many years.

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

I turn my denim inside out, wash on a cool cycle with whatever detergent I've got, and leave to air dry. Perhaps I should embrace the dryer. 😉

I tries that when I was new to denim. About an hour afterwards, they start to stink again.

Yeah, a 6 month old corpse is going to stink a little when it warms up after a quick freeze.  It's not really a logical solution to cleaning your jeans….

That being said, destroying IH gear in the wash is definitely possible.  @DougNg, didn't you wreck your cotton duck jacket?  I also think @hectic (ex-moderator) destroyed his superblack shirt.

The washing instructions that are accompanied with IH purchases were taken from one of my posts.  I've learned a few things over the years and have a few more tips to share.  I'll try to post them in the next few weeks.

Agreed to all the above.  I've had people ask me, "I've never soaked a denim shirt.  How do you do it?".  I usually say 'the same way you would jeans' but I really want to say 'does your family tree fork?'

For awhile I avoided the washing machine too for this reason, but I've found that a follow up cycle with dirty shop rags and "dog stuff" that I don't care about if it gets stained blue along with Oxi Clean is a good way to clean out the machine.

what's a gun without scratches? if it gets banged up, get a bit of kiwi and apply it. that's how we used to do it back in the army after every major exercise.

Kiwi doesn't sound like a good idea on a conceal carry weapon, I'd think it would transfer onto clothes.
