I'm a little concerned that these shady-ass transactions went through, but I know that they will handle they biz. And I get my fresh card tomorrow.

      Think it, be it.

That is a right cock punch fiscally speaking McLC .Been a victim myself on both Visa and MC . Easy to sort since
they can see your history of transactions and then send you a form to swear an affidavit with on the false charges.

Whenever I travel either to another province/state or to another continent - I phone both
my two card companies to inform the place and dates of travel . Saves a headache later trying to phone
        in different time zones .

If you ever get scammed on your debit card , that is a major pain . You need to go down
to your bank and do a lot of paperwork . I have thought about a pre-loaded credit card for
        only online purchases .

Hope your sorted out fast McLC .

        Cheers

        Mirthing my way through life.

            Jock,

I was one of the people swooped up in the Target mess a few months back. Before major outlets broke the story, my credit union had killed every card of theirs that was linked, was in the process of contacting every effected customer and had new cards issued on site at the local branch same day you went in.

I have also had charges reversed on the spot when they came from fraudulent means with little more than a teller looking at the charge and my account history.

Point being, while it took some searching, there are always better options when one is dealing with banks.

Never had the debit card trouble (rarely use mine ) , mate of mine got jimmied on his. Since the funds
come right out of your account , it's a lot more work convincing the bank it wasn't you
with drawing $671 at 4 am on such and such time. Can be fixed , but just a huge amount of effort .

Just over a year ago my wife and I decided we were going to live a credit less life, we ditched all our credit cards, paid off a long term loan we had and we allocate a portion of our wages each month to close out our mortgage 10 years early. It's made things hard at times, no more loose purchases, foreign travel is a pain in the ass when you only have cash, the reduction in overtime hours available at work really pinched our pockets, and anything we need around the house we have to save for, but we genuinely like it and feel better about ourselves for doing it. We checked out of the credit society by choice, it's not for everyone but after going through what Mac is going through three times I thought "fuck that" and became a cash only guy.

Maybe that should have been a random announcement…..

Good on you Mega . Tough way to live in this credit pushed society , for me the ccard works as long as you don't go in debt …which defeats their business model ha,ha . Eventually
I reckon cash will be obsolete one day and we will just have a barcode on our wrists , that will be linked
to all your vital info .

That reminded me of a family who were trying to live for one year , without
using or buying anything made in Choina (how Michael Caine says it ....) .

I've had a CC for 'bout ten years now, and haven't used it once to make a payment in the real world… It's for Internetz only and that will never change...

It's also weird that my max monthly budget of my Visa is more than what I actually make a month... It's easy to see how people less good with their money can royally fuck things up...

One thing it forces me to do is only buy what I can afford to spend my spare income on, which thanks to the hours reduction is not as much as it used to be  😠

Fortunately, this in turn forces a change in philosophy when it comes to buying and owning stuff. Which is that I actually really think hard about the things I buy these days and their long term use to me. Doesn't make me an ideal consumer but it made me look back on a whole pile of stuff I'd bought in the past and realise I'd been quite dumb.

Fortunately 9 times out of 10 these days I am really happy with what I buy, because I have made damn sure that it is EXACTLY what I want. I have a list of 5 or 6 things that I want to pick up for myself this year (the IHSH-75 was the first), and I am totally sure they represent the best "bang to buck ratio" in their particular field because I have been anal as fuck about when considering them against their alternatives.

Seul good on you mate for managing your funds.

Megatron I agree on your buying stuff that lasts . Been going that route for a while too.
Like you said , look back on the shite you've bought over the years and loudly moan and whince.

I imagine if most people did a budget ( scary word for some ) and took a hard look at what they
earn vs what is left after their paid ….might wise up . The simplicity of it is - don't spend more than you earn.

I have a few coworkers who have serious CC debt , plus student loans to pay back . As you can imagine , not the jolliest folks going.

Glad to see similar views on debt. It kills me that "more stuff" means more to the crowd than self sustainablity. It also kills me that my grandkids who are decades from existence will inherit the black hole of debt, and their quality of life will likely be greatly diminished for it.
