I have an issue with people writing "just saying" after their comment. It seems to have become fairly popular.

IMO it's just a way of saying something dickish and then taking no responsibility for what was said.  Just sayin  😶

Exactly. Just say what you have to say and own it.

I don't mind people saying something dickish…. I do it regularly. But that comment tacked on the end makes it dickish and arrogant, as if you're helping the ignorant masses by dishing out worldly advice.

The other version of it that I dislike is sentences that start with "to be honest xxxx".

RockN, you may have noticed the MS advertising campaign on bus shelters in the CBD. They start with "Honestly". Adding the word as apposed to just saying whatever creates doubt in my mind. The fact it's advertising for Windows Metro/Surface junk, it's a scam, so stays true to my theory.

well to be honest, i say it when i am trying to be honest as oppsed to my 99.5% of the time bullsh!ting & trolling. . . but I'm just saying it's sometimes akin to people who say like or that, like every 3 words when you are talking. like that is just like annoying to have so many words in a language & that you like use only 4 of them to get like that pointlessness across.

I won't claim not to have fallen into such traps, but pointless turns of phrase such as these are vapid verbal dreck. In speech, you can say "er", "um" or "ahh" if your brain falls behind your mouth, and in written text there's especially no need for them. This happens with "you know" and "you know what I'm saying?" Too. Unless you are really asserting that I know something or asking me if I understand you, these phrases add nothing to the conversation. I'm all for florid, poetic speech, but repetitious empty phrases I can do without.

Like, you know what I'm saying? To be honest, I'm just sayin…

i find it funny & ironic that like the more some small factions of mankind advance in tech & arts the rest of us seem to just be going backwards & are maybe like 3 steps removed from like dragging our knuckles on the floor. that is like crazy.

"Right on brother" comes from my mouth all too frequently, my other oft used phrase that I am sure can grind other "it is what it is". All too guilty of a few of the others, got hit with a radio interview once last minute (10 minutes prep time) that was a train wreck of one after another. Tis a nightmare when you realize you're doing it and don't have the time to regather yourself.

There's times when I feel that one necessary, and it actually means what it implies. Particularly if you are dealing with someone who thinks they understand a topic better than they do. It's a way of saying I'm not trying to piss on you here, but you're wrong. I think the disrespect comes mostly with misapplication of the phrase, and I try to make sure if I use it, it is properly warranted. I don't like verbally stepping on others though as most times it's counter productive.
