Journals, Planners, and Calendars.

How do you keep organized? I use my phone a lot, but there's something satisfying and tactile about keeping a handwritten planner or journal.
I was having a conversation with a friend recently, and she told me how much she loved her Hobonichi Planner, and apparently these planners have a cult following, which doesn't surprise me after getting my hands on one. It's a really versatile planner that's meant to be used for whatever you feel like. It's brilliantly designed and very Japanese. Do some googling about Hobonichi planners and see what I mean.
This is directly from their website: "Every day is given an entire page with only graph lines for creative versatility. You can enter your schedule for the day or scribble some ideas on a whim. But the planner is not only for writing. Users paste tickets, magazine clips, photo prints and other items of interest as they use the planner in their own unique way."

Lovely cover.I was just reading about this paper on their Facebook page. I had never heard of it before and it's really interesting to me.
"Some of the Hobonichi staff visited the factory in Kansai the other day to check up on the production of next year's Hobonichi Techo books. Because the 400-page books use the thin, sleek Tomoe River paper, the pages slide around easily and require their own special lane in the factory lines where they are tightly pressed several times over. It's a lot of extra work, but all that special care is very important when constructing a book that people purchase online. Because most customers aren't able to see the book in person before purchasing it, we make sure the quality control is as strict as possible–even the factory manager says the Hobonichi Techo is by far the most complex book they work with. As you can see in the pictures, production is going great so far!"
Really like the locking cover concept. The planners look great, too. I'll have to check out their site.
Thanks! I'm always losing my pen, so the locking cover is dual purpose for me. I tried to design something that would hold my pen securely and keep my planner from opening up unnecessarily in my briefcase or pocket. I used a little Moleskine notebook for a while, but that little elastic band slips off too easily, and wears out eventually. So far, I'm finding the planner to be really useful as a planner because I'm free to write as much or as little as I want, but I've been too busy lately to start using it for more creative purposes. I imagine I'll use it to start sketching out leather designs, etc.

I've tried many diary types over the years, paper and digital, but I think I've hit a middle ground by using a wall calendar, pocket diary and cahier in unison.
Wall calendar keeps me up to date with my shifts, events with friends and family, and allows me to quickly find out what days my partner will be home early, at work late or at a function. We tried using a synced google calendar on our phones but entering data and changing dates and events just got irritating and was just clunky for our communication. I'd rather just scribble on the calendar and score it out if need be.
I've always loved Moleskine diaries and project books and my pocket diary and cahier stay in my bag or jacket if I'm at work or out and about. My diary keeps me up to date on day to day activities (I tend to be very unproductive if I don't have a list of to-do's even on days off) and helps me plan for future birthdays and family outings, while keeping me straight with work duties and projects. The cahier fits into the back of the diary without adding much bulk at all and I slide it out for notes.
If I'm out with friends then the cahier is the perfect size to stay behind my wallet or in a front pocket, and is my scribble book. Anything that needs noted down or considered, any thoughts or ideas I have when out and about or if I need to give someone my number or email, quick scribble and tear out the back page, sorted.
I try online services but I find I just forget to update them because they're too clunky. The one problem with paper is needing a pen. I use Pilot G2's and previously Stabilo point88's because they write well on paper and dry quickly, but I can never find a small pen that will fit in my diary or a pocket and that I wont loose. If I'm penless then my system is scuppered unfortunately!

There's a lot of debate about the paper quality of moleskine vs. field notes or other cheaper environmentally sourced notepads but the quality of moleskine and their simplicity has always suited me just fine. Sometimes you just got to stick with what you like.

I bought some a4 rhodia reporter pads for my study notes and I really like the paper quality, has a sort of smooth silky feel to it which compliments my pen

The one in the first picture (and all of the other pictures) is the one I bought, and it has a pretty robust thick paper cover (maybe with a plastic coating) but I really thought it needed a protective leather cover because I tend to trash my planners. Also, as I mentioned above, I lose my pens frequently, so designing/building a cover that has built-in pen storage was a no-brainer for me.I'm on their mailing list, so as soon as they become available on September 1st, I'll mention it here so anyone who wants one can get one in time for 2016. I use an indigo stained postik pad that I keep in my back pocket #notveryorganised.

At work, policeman, I carry a standard 3X5 notepad in my back pocket. I keep it in a sturdy stingray/cowhide cover. The covers are available in other exotic skins too – shark, elephant, hippo, lizard, alligator, etc.

A few weeks in and loving it. Very handy on a daily basis, and it's very easy to track things day on day/week on week. It's perfect for the role I'm doing when it comes to driving behaviours and delivering updates based on certain days. Simplifies my life for real - thank you!
