INTRODUCING BONCOURA - THE LONGEST PATH TO COMPLETION
We are excited to announce a new brand added to the roster of lines we carry at Self Edge, Hisashi Morishima’s Boncoura. Morishima was born and raised in Amerikamura, Osaka, a place known for its abundance of American vintage clothing and imports, all within biking distance from his home. From his early school years, he immersed himself in thrift stores, drawn in by vintage Made-in-USA clothing. Over the years he became obsessed with vintage basics such as jeans, t-shirts, and fleece hoodies. ⠀⠀⠀

After working for a major Japanese department store, Morishima thought to start his own business. Although starting a thrift store would have been fitting, considering his collection, he had a different vision. He explained, "I can't modify vintage clothing myself. So, if I want to express myself, I'd rather create it. I've worn plenty of vintage XX, and based on that experience, I decided to make the jeans I wanted to wear. I never once considered it a business; it's purely an extension of my hobby." With this idea, is where Boncoura started.While Boncoura is an extension of his hobby, it's precisely because of this that he refuses to compromise. Every recipe, from the origin of the cotton to blending ratios, yarn twisting, and the concentration of pure indigo, is entirely original and exclusive to his brand. The attention to detail we’ve seen in his garments isn’t something we’ve seen from many lines over the years and we’re excited to show you what Morishima has been creating.

We have the Pure Blue Japan 003 classic straight leg fit in a tasty denim style they've developed to contain just the right about of slub in a nice medium weight 16.5oz unsanforized (but Self Edge-style rinsed) denim and the XX-019 straight tapered jean made of a 14oz denim coming in on the lighter side of PBJ’s weight scale which are finished with custom iron buttons, a deerskin patch, and sturdy cotton twill pocket bags.

SELF EDGE X HTC HAND-MADE STUDDED BELTS & KEY FOBS
We’ve been carrying studded belts from Zip Stevenson’s Hollywood Trading Company for almost 15 years and thought it was time for a fresh collection. We’ve been working with the team over at HTC over the past year to develop three new belt styles and two key fobs, all hand made in their workshop in Los Angeles using full grain cowhide, snakeskin, and stringray. These are available now at all five of our stores.

FINE CREEK VIRGINIA BEACH HORSEHIDE TYPE II JACKET
Fine Creek Leather’s Virginia Beach Type II jacket is finally back in stock after being unavailable for over three years. This is our number one most client requested horsehide jacket from any brand we carry, and we’re excited to see that it’s available again. The way the front chest pleats pull and pucker with wear is truly a sight to behold. This comes in as a classic fit with just a hair of length added to the body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fine Creek makes some of the most beautiful horsehide jackets we've seen. Using a vegetable tanned Japanese Shinki horsehide, which ages in a fairly fast manner, they cut and sew these jackets in their own studio in Tokyo. The quality of stitching is as good as it gets for a leather jacket, and we've not seen many jackets age as well as these do. Depending on the panel they'll use a different type of stitch thread and thread count to achieve puckering in certain areas for added character.

SAMURAI ZERO FABRIC ECRU JEANS & T-SHIRTS
Samurai’s ZERO FABRIC is now available as an 18oz natural undyed slub denim with a "dirt" selvedge ID.
Samurai has done a crazy but beautiful thing.. In 2010 they bought a small farm outside Osaka, Japan, with the hopes they would be able to grow their own cotton with the intention of one day being able to make garments made of their own cotton, as in a truly vertically made garment. After fourteen years they've been able to grow enough cotton to make jeans and of course they're as beautiful as the story behind them. The cotton is minimally processed in very small batches without the use of any harsh cleaning or whitening agents, also all fractured cotton seeds and all staple lengths are left in the cotton during the carding and spinning process for a truly unique fabric. We can really say we’ve never felt or seen denim like this from any company. These jeans are now available in very small numbers at our stores.
We've also received ZERO FABRIC t-shirts in three colors, all available with and without pockets.
