I’ve been watching this thread for years but don’t think I’ve ever contributed. I’ve got a Datejust that’s 10 years old now and still love. I hope one day my son will want to wear it (most likely not but I like to think he will). I’ve just recently picked up a rare Omega Speedmaster ref. 186.0010 here are some pictures.

@Brandrea I mean mess it up with rough use. I tend to be prone to scratches and nicks and whatnot. I know my personal limits of what I’m willing to spend versus what wear and tear I can accept on an item. That’s a whole different level of luxury for a guy like me.

That fair. In all honesty, I wear my SXK009j more than anything, for,the very reason you mention.

@deanclean I really admire those quartz Speedies, they are very cool and desirable these days. I remember buying vintage quartz Omegas for 3-500$ a pop, those days are long gone! I think part of me wanted the X33 so badly bc I missed out back in the day.

@Anesthetist I really like it too. Parts are very hard to find but I’ll just enjoy it until I can’t anymore. I never knew about these digital Speedmasters before. I just saw one a few months ago and started my search.

I got to try on the Patek 5980 yesterday.

A striking piece and works well in two tone with the blue dial.

The case is quite chunky compared to my 5712. The 5980 is not as versatile but is more of statement piece.

The 5980 was in an exhibition at the local dealers and not for sale.![alt text](IMG_1010.jpeg IMG_1012.jpeg image url)

There was also a Chophard LUC GMT, the monotone ceramides titanium version.

The world time version of this LUC has been discontinued and rumours are that this simpler GMT will follow.

Very nice watch and definitely flys under the radar.

@Bailey 10 days is pushing it for any kind of repairs, but you might be able to find someone. If you want to do a repair and have period correct pieces it may take quite some time.

Best of luck on the repair and let us know how you make out. Also, huge congratulations on the upcoming! Cheers 🙂

@Bailey …had one other thought. Just wear the watch on the wedding day and don’t worry about it working or not. You can have the memories of wearing it on your special day and you’ll be so busy that you won’t be looking at it anyway. Send it away after the wedding and find someone who can fix it properly.

@goosehd Thanks for the congrats man, yeh that's what I was thinking. However it is a touch too big, so at the very least would need some links taking out if that's possible with the design of the strap.

I agree with @goosehd, I’d wear that beautiful watch from your grand dad as is. You don’t want to rush a restoration job on such a sentimental piece.

Excited for you, all our best from Canada!

@Bailey a strap adjustment should be easy, the jeweller just needs to pop a few links out. It'll probably take a few minutes.

Nice watch and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.

Bailey, I can attempt to find that out for you if you like. I have a friend who’s sort of a Seiko expert and he’s intrigued by your watch.
