Some vintage ones from the drawerful…when I stopped wearing suits for the most part, I gave these up. I have quite a lot, mostly Swiss, but Russian, Slav, even Hamiltons, all from yesteryear before prices went nutty. Must do something with them all. These days it's just Seiko, or once in awhile an Omega with textured face that I like (not this one, which is a 1960ss).

Amidst all these Rolexes and Tudors and all that, I decide to get a little funky…

Nice choice Seul. But if you haven't already picked it up, definitely give this new Citizen diver a look. Apparently it has a few improvements over the earlier model, and it looks great (and funky) too.

                Thanks @davito  !

@Giles  , this is the one I got, the OG 7169/0.  Not sure it's the best match for the bike but if you know anyone who sells clothing perhaps you can find some gear to help coordinate?

This is an awesome looking chrono.  Congrats @babyknight  Look forward to seeing more pictures when you have the time.

@Finn666 Definitely Panerai! They have a very special look and if there is any hype it's not as you see them all over the place. I just like the authentic vintage, minimalistic style about them.

Wondering if you know… Neither have the "Japanese mov't" on the dial... This is the Japanese version though:

Really interesting video just posted on the Hodinkee website showing how FP Journe makes their most complex watch the Grand Sonniere.

There is also some footage of the dial manufacturing workshop where all Journe dials are made, some nice footage of the Chronometre Bleu dial being made.

Not really sure. This one has the same model # as the one at Seiya Japan and states made in Japan in the text.

Perhaps the Made in Japan text is just not included in the photo image?

Yeah - and I was also under the assumption that Citizen made all their watches in Japan (not the bracelets, though)… It's confusing...

I just reckon I need a funky wee diver to rotate with my other Citizen... And I'm thoroughly impressed with that'un, so was looking for another Citizen... Or a Seiko Prospex  :-\

I don't want to turn you off to Citizen (or seiko) because I think they are two of the best values out there in watches, but at around $200 I don't think you can expect that these watches are 100% Japan made. I would be very surprised if some parts of production are not outsourced. I don't know about Citizen, but a lot of Seiko's assembly process on its lower costing lines is done in Malaysia.

If you're looking at Seiko too, everyone raves on the SKX007, at about the same price point as the Citizen you're looking at. But it's not as funky (although it can be given the mod funk treatment pretty easily). The Monster and Sumo are good too, but a little more dough. My favorites are the tunas (Sbbn015 and 017).

Also really nice is a vintage 6309. That's what I went with and I'm very happy with it. The cushion case gives it a bit of funk, and it's got some rock and roll cred too.

Only problem is that it is next to impossible to find an all original 6309 that hasn't been cobbled out. The Citizen and Seiko watches that Seiya sells are typically Japan made and meant for their market. You can typically tell the difference IMO.

It can be a challenge, but I wouldn't say it's next to impossible. Indeed, during my search for one the biggest challenge was deciding which to go for, due to a surfeit of choices. Prices have definitely increased though. You'll have to pay a premium for an all original.

But not everyone needs/wants an original either. Some of the mods look pretty damn good.

I found a useful website to help you search the marketplace for that watch you have been looking for….......

                                      http://www.watchrecon.com/

You search by brand or specific name.

The website then searches all the normal sales websites, chrono 24, TZforum, Watchprosite etc etc, saving you logging in and out of them individually.

You can save a specific search term and receive notifications when any new pieces matching your search crop up.

I found some really nice watches.

However, as useful as the website is, it still does not help you pay for the watches unfortunately!  Must work harder!
