ANDE-SC - Andersen-Andersen - Sailor Crew Neck
Designed by Andersen-Andersen in Denmark, the “Sailor” crew neck uses a 7-gauge pure wool knit to create a medium-to-heavy-weight sweater for colder seasons and climates.
Knitted and linked in Italy, this fully fashioned knit features a symmetrical design — meaning the front and back are identical, allowing the sweater to be worn either way around. In the past, this symmetry made it easier for sailors to dress in the dark. However, Andersen-Andersen honours the tradition for a more sustainable reason, believing that rotating a sweater reduces wear in any one spot, thereby extending its life. For added versatility in colder weather, the sleeve ribbing has been extended to incorporate thumb holes, allowing the cuffs to be folded at the wrist or pulled down over the hands for extra warmth when temperatures drop.
As for the wool itself, Andersen-Andersen’s signature yarn is made from mulesing-free, 100% pure new wool sourced from Corriedale sheep in Patagonia. The fibres are carefully cleansed and worsted to remove broken and short fibres before being given an extra spin to produce a denser, more durable yarn that is far less likely to pill. Once knitted, this creates a substantial garment with exceptional strength and durability, built to withstand years of wear.

My taupe size large Sailors sweater just arrived. I’d put the quality of AA on par with Dehen. What do you think of the fit? It’s a little more fitted than I expected but I suspect it will give a little with time. Also not crazy about the upper arm area - what has been your experience with that? Overall I think it’s a keeper.

-
@Phil_NYC I think that looks a size small, especially if you plan to wash it ever. And the upper arm area looks a bit “off” too. Just my opinion, but I’d maybe size up and see if it helps.
I will say I love that taupe color. I’m eyeing it in the skipper jacket

You might be right about the sizing although I think the XL would be too big all around. The upper arms are the area that feels off and also the neck hole. I will try it with a button down underneath and see if that affects the fit at all.

I personally feel it looks good on you, and it will soften and relax a bit where it needs to, but ultimately only you know how it feels on you.
As Giles said, they can take a little getting used to, the one i purchased for myself also feels a bit snug, but i know long term it will be fine.

I think @giles is on the money w the issue being due to the symmetrical design and the heft of the fabric. I had a similar issue with a vintage Filson heavy sweater that was similar in design.
Silly question but is it the exact same if you wear it w the opposite side? I get that it is symmetrical but you never know.Fwiw, I think the fit is spot on and it’s one tough looking sweater

I also have some w my heavy Dehen shawl
