What does “brushed” actually mean ?

@gneicher "Brushed" typically describes fabrics treated to create a soft, napped surface, eg. our UHFs are twice brushed on the inside to make them extra cozy in cold weather

What does “brushed” actually mean ?

Notice how on the outside of the shirt you can see the weave of the fabric clearly, but the inside it looks fuzzy. It’s the same piece of fabric, but the inside has been brushed to make it softer and fuzzier. It gives a really nice feel but I feel like it makes it warmer; which is a negative for me being in a very hot climate and still wanting to wear my flannels. Unbrushed gives me more layering opportunities. It also slides over a t-shirt better when it’s unbrushed. It’s not a lot, but enough to create a preference. I tend to size up in my (brushed) UHFs for this reason.

Hard to tell from the photos, but I am assuming this one is not overdyed with grey such as the 332? Perhaps the flannel with be a tad brighter, especially with the blue?

@Oaktavia I don’t remember where have I seen it, but there was mention that Haraki managed to get more muted yarn colours, and the need to OD for that reason was gone, but I also remember that @Giles was mentioning that the initial UHF ODs we’re done to increase the weight of the fabric.
I hope I didn’t mixed up things.

@Karol the dying process has changed for the UHF, which leads to more colour stable dying and less colour loss after washing. Hence, the more muted colours. See here

Just doing a little measuring comparison between this work shirt and the 439 Westerns …

It would appear as though this work shirt is cut slighter slimmer in the same XXL size as the westerns. I’ll be sure to get with the IH crew on order day to sort it out. Super stoked,
