Hard Drinkers, Lets Drink Hard (Spirits, Liquors and Cocktails)

Long ago now, I was riding a chair lift with a couple of strangers that were passing a flask. I asked what it was and they have it to me. Turns out it was a fifty fifty mix of creme de menthe and peppermint schnapps that they later told me was called snow snake repellent. It was a fun experience but I've never had that again.

@scooter I’ve never tried any of those, but have heard nothing but great things about all of them. Especially the 12 yr. For my personal tastes, the sweet spot for bourbon, tends to be 7-10 years old. After that they can be a bit too oakie/oaky for my taste. Having said that, The Elijah Craig 18 is one of my all time favorites. I felt that the Knob Creek 14 was a bit too oaky for me. How would you rate these on their oakiness level?
If you can handle EC18, you can certainly handle KC12. It's a far less pricey pour, as well. Honestly, the KC12 is #2 of my "always on hand" Bourbons.
As far as oak goes, I brought a bottle of the new Jack Daniels Heritage Toasted to a friend's place for Thanksgiving. It's a lovely pour. But, it's definitely oak heavy. Personally, I find the oak influence of the KC18 and KC21 less offensive. If memory serves, you are a fan of Woodford Double Oaked. I have the same opinion of that comparison, too...

It had better be. It's a Christmas gift to myself. I trust the reviews I've read, though. I'll open it Christmas Eve, and let you know...

Man I love these Navarro brothers of San Luis Potosí.
They use pulque to get the fermentation started and have a few other novel techniques. Their spirts tend to be vegetal, spicy, and peppery. Some of the most delicious and unique agave spirits I’ve had.

More details on the family who makes the above and other San Luis Potosi agave distillates. Just love this style.

Final NYC acquisition, from Astor Wines & Spirits. I’m glad I don’t have a place like this near me.

@mclaincausey I’m guessing you had that shipped? It’s a really cool store. I go there for tastings from time to time. The single most eclectic selection of spirits I’ve ever seen. I get an email from them every single day, telling me what’s on sale. I have an account with them and I also get emails… Based on your purchase history we think you might like this special single barrel Reposado or Eagle Rare, and if you pre order, we’ll give you 20% off.
-
@Jett129 I wish I’d put it on your account for the points. No sir I’m in NYC, went to the store!

@mclaincausey I’m actually coming into NYC today to get my hair cut. What part of town are you in?
