      Hi folks,

I promise I’ll properly introduce myself in the right topic, been sniffing around for some time now and that is just inappropriate behavior, besides that I now have some IH stuff to show as well [emoji57].

Anyhow, I have found something really nice on my doorstep today a 62 and I am stoked about the shirt.
I do have a question about sizing tho. Mine is a size L and it is bit too roomy. Downsizing won’t work that’ll be too smal.

I have read that some members soaked their shirt while others machine washed on 90 degrees for two times. Soaking seems pretty harmless I guess but what about the machine wash option? What happens to the garment more precisely the colour? Won’t the colour fade? And what would it mean to the fades in the future?

Here is a crappy picture of me and my beloved new shirt:

Hi, and welcome to the forum @bob_z

Hard to judge from the photo, but it looks good and will look better with a little shrinkage.

Normal regular washing gives shrinkage over time. To get the shrinkage you need, do a hot wash. To get max shrinkage go for 90C with low or no spin. But soak the shirt thoroughly first with the shower head, inside and out.

One hot wash will make very little difference to the colour and will not affect potential fading at all. Fading on these shirts requires regular and continued wear. That will make the shirt dirty and smelly. You will then need to wash it. Wearing and washing, wearing and washing, that is how fading happens. This IHSH-68-IND (same material) has been worn and washed many, many times over the years.

I'm one who washed it at 90 with no ill effects, other than some desired shrinkage.  To my mind, the 62s are noticeably tougher than similar weight IH shirts, so there's probably little you can do to damage them, short of using a knife.

Thanks for the advice guys, will do a 95 degrees treatment. The working factor here is the temperature I guess, so no washing powder needed?

Being my mother's son I feel like I know a thing or two about washing clothes.  My mom was, to put it politely, fanatical and careful, good at it the way a fine obsessive neurotic person would be.  Given our love for IH, I suspect we are all obsessive.

I like clean clothes and still try to get more than one wear if it's possible, but less with respect to shirts than pants.  Shirts need a wash when your ordinary sweat is akin to the Alien's acid that burns through the spaceship floor.  Like mine.

That said, we all use more detergent than is really necessary.  The prescribed amounts on containers are all too much.  You are not likely washing your IH in big loads but even if you are, cut back some.  You will get just as good results and even the better, less "fragrance" or purer detergents will kill your stuff.  A good rinse is important but a tad less soap and it's still clean.  Merely input from the kid who's mom was certifiably nuts  about cleaning, umm, everything.

I was so curious so I put it on while it was still wet (man that is so freaken cold… I didn't tumble dry) 1st impression is that it worked like a dream!

Hmmm prob hard to see but the shirt does sit a little tighter especially around the arms and the torso. Happy with it as it is now but still there is that little sound in the back of my head that says give it another try!

cant wait for the journey to get going…I think there is a reason why this one is a classic.

I did a quick close up comparison to distinguish between the 12 oz. Cotton hickory stripe and the 12 oz cotton Wabash. I thought they were the same, but upon inspection the wabash has smaller "ribs" (terminology) than the Hickory stripe. They feel similar to the hand as far as weight and thickness, but they are not the same.
