In the wild: Animals edition

Inspired by these recent bird posts, here's a pair of bald eagles we saw in our backyard last month. They hung out for a while. Was pretty cool to see.

An occasional visitor just passed by. Usually they come and go too quickly to catch. One day they’ll come when I have clean windows!

I think people looked at importing muntjacs into the US, but determined it was too dear

A midnight encounter on the way home. Not sure who was more surprised.

This was after I had nearly walked into it on the path and it had partially run away. No flash as it wasn’t going to hang around while I changed settings.

A first for me: A Black-chinned hummingbird. Spotted outside my kitchen window this morning.

The first Rufous of the season showed up this morning. That makes three different species in the last 24 hours. (Anna’s are year round residents.)

Will try to get a pic on my way home tomorrow morning at 4am of the power line with at least 6 kookaburras that seem to make it their perch of choice
