      Hi all,
Getting ready to buy a pair of selvedge. My first. Did some YouTube research and I ended up here. Buy once cry once. I’m having some issues with which fit to get, as well as sizing, and would greatly appreciate all of yours advice.

Fit: I don’t like tight jeans, nor do I really want a taper from knee to hem, if it does it has to be minimal. It cannot be narrow at the hem (I don’t really want less than 8”), nor can it be low rise. I also do not want really baggy.

Size: so much confusion. Buy one size big buy one size small. They will shrink, they will stretch. Buy the exact size of your actual waist (33.5), buy a pair that is = sizes to a pair you already own…

I have an athletic build. Here is the pair of jeans I own that fit me best - a vintage pair from guess. Waist 34”, front rise 10.5”, thigh 11”, knee 9.5”, hem 10”.

Help! And thanks for your time.

If you have the measurements of a good fitting jeans in a cut you like, that's a great starting point and you can compare these to the several models from Ironheart (they measure them differently, so consider this). If you don't like tight, tapered jeans, I would start with the 634 cut, the classic one and take it from there. Other than that, give them a call or email, they are very supportive.

Are these measurements taken the way we do? If not, can you please remeasure them like this:

Based on Alex’s comment, I wonder if that thigh measurement might come up a little bit, because 11” seems pretty tight to me.

Based on the other measurements, the 666 might also be a good one to check out. There isn’t going to be a pair with those tighter upper dimensions and a 10” hem, but the 666 will still be over 8” and easily fits over boots in my experience.

634 for sure is an excellent place to look (my personal fave), and I’d describe it as the more relaxed sibling of the 666. I wore 666 for years and then ended up wanting a bit more room, so these days I wear almost all 634.

@jwagz77 Do you want blue jeans, black jeans, heavy jeans, light jeans, or something in the middle? Textured jeans like slubby, or a smooth jean like 21oz? What kind of fades are you looking for?

Lot of questions ahead of you that the guys at the shop are really good at answering. As @Alex stated, email the guys at IHUK shop@ironheart.co.uk

Remeasured. 34” waist, upper thigh was 12.5, knee/hem both 9.5

Thinking 18 or 21oz for my first pair. Is this a mistake and I should be in the 14 ounce?

Also I’ve seen a couple different makes of the 634. 634s and 634z specifically.

@jwagz77 you are looking for a straight cut, and an actual waist of about 33.0" on any denim that will not shrink (that means on 90% of our jeans you need to target a 33.0" waist)

You have quite a few options to chose from, see here:

If you have any further questions, please direct them to the email address myself and @goosehd have given you and one of the team can give you more specific advice if you need. I am locking this thread for now.
