@edgarallanpoe Exactly. They have more sales than a furniture store. Their southwest styling is dead-on usually, but when you go back to the basics, the quality is a little bit wonky, whereas IH is stronger. RRL specializes in pre-distressing, too, if that's your thing.

@indigostiff no question that IH is better quality.

@Matt not all their stuff is made in China, the line is composed of stuff made from all over the place. IIRC their jeans are made in the US.

I don’t always discount brands for having Chinese made products or for having outrageous mark ups. RL has been doing what they do forever so I can’t argue with their place in the market. That’s business after all. Besides, there are plenty of smaller brands in China that are doing it right and suffer from the stigma.
Personally, I like IH better.

I find RRL to be variable. I've got a lovely packable helmet / tote bag that's made of a thick nylon. But I took a look at the Falcon backpack last week and thought that the fabric felt flimsy for something that's got quite a large price tag.
I could get something like a USA made Filson rucksack for the same price. It might not be as pretty, but it'd have a similar aesthetic and last a lot longer.

@Matt these are from the RRL store that was in Georgetown. Bought them in 1995. Still wear them weekly. Branded RRL, but Stamped Made in England. No idea who actually made them.

In Canada there isn't much of an opportunity to experience RRL in person. However I recently visited the RL store in Yorkdale mall and they had a small section of RRL items. I have to say, I was underwhelmed. Most of the plaid and waffle shirts felt like something I could get at the GAP for 1/10 the price.
Prior to this visit I almost placed a large order online. Im glad I didn't.
Am I missing something? Is there some insider info as to what items are worth the money. Just jackets? Heavy knits?
Compared to every item I have ever experienced from Iron Heart, RRL doesn't come close.

@Skelly-0 RRL is only good (to me) for accent pieces and their weathering / fatiguing at purchase. Also, some of their Americana / Chimayo stuff is good, but only as accent pieces. To me, their waffle stuff and plaids are mall-wear -- nothing special, you're right. And obscenely expensive. Their collabs are sometimes nice - like their Rios boot collab for hand-tooled western boots - just magnificent. But then again, they're not making it, Rios is.
