The draw is simple wabi sabi.

The unadulterated joy of a hard fought point when your team has faced and held a superior opposition.

The pain of your team completely dominating the opposition and being unfairly denied all points by a last minute stroke of luck.

Offside is somewhat harder to justify, English men spend a frustrating amount of time explaining it to English women, mainly without success.

I shall therefore not even attempt to explain it to Americans  😶

By the by, my team are not playing their opening match until Monday evening, so it is making a nice change for me to enjoy opening day without the pressure of us taking a beating. That particular joy can wait until Monday when we face the richest team in the league in their own ground  😠

The Beautiful Game.  (No draws here)

              I paraphrase this from Abuja.ng

"Nigeria has etched its name in football's hall of infamy".  It is no secret that football in our country is corrupted by pervasive match fixing, but last month this cheating reached an absurd new level.

It involved 2 clubs - Plateau United Feeders and Police Machine FC - who were each vying in separate, simultaneous matches for a single spot in the professional League.  The winner on goal difference would clinch it.

In both cases the games became frenzies of goal scoring, as each teams opponents left the goal untended so that the predetermined winner could hoof in ball after ball.

Plateau United defeated Akurba by 79 goals to nil, whilst in the other match, Police Machine (and that is doubly ironic) won 67-0.

              😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 (Smileys are mine  ;D)

Yeah agreed, offsides isn't hard to grasp. Nothing in football is, it's a simple sport. One of the good things about it. Compare the rule book to golf, baseball, American football…  Guessing it's a bit shorter.

                  Think it, be it.

No City fans in the household… The United fan was half watching Shakhtar Donetsk piddle all over his team. At least from the 2nd half that I saw. And no, he didn't seem to be enjoying it.

As a Stoke fan... Well I'll just leave it there... Nice to see we're starting the battle for relegation early this Season 😞

Yeah, that was big! But, to be honest, we're playing the first time international since 2001. So everyone is very motivated because it's something special. I think it's much different if your club is playing in europe every season.
I was for the first time at a football game in England (Wales, to be exact), the crowd on the terraces is very different to Switzerland and other countries i was at the games (Italy, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Poland, Austria). It's like they're not used to hear singing and shouts for the whole game. No one sits on the chairs. I blame that one on Maggie Thatcher, high ticket prices and very high fines for small things  😶
And if you smoke a cigarette, they want to kick you out of the stadium…

Couldn't agree more. I often accompany a friend to the Emirates (despite being a Norwich City fan) and am always shocked at how quiet it is for a 60K capacity stadium. Although Stamford Bridge was even quieter when I went there last season; it was actually quite amazing how so many people in a space that size could make so little noise! I've been to a few games in São Paulo (at the Morumbi and Pacaembu stadiums) and the constant dancing, singing drumming etc was quite something to behold.

Hope you're enjoying being back in European competition again, despite the loss in Swansea. Hopefully you can give Valencia a beating away from home in your next fixture.

That's what i heard from some grundhopping friends too.
Sao Paulo is definately an other level than everything in western Europe, i'm jealous! One day, I want to watch a Superclassico at the Bombonera.

Thanks for you're wishes for our Valencia game. To be realistic, they're 2 numbers to big for St.Gallen. But in a Cup Game, everything is possible.
This saturday we play Basel away in a league game. It's gonna be a tough one too.
