IH-634S-UHR - 21/23oz Raw Selvedge Denim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo

@northsouthdenimguy 100% of the reason why I did the second hot soak and a hot water wash. Little baggy in the butt. But as an old man, not too uncommon with jeans these days, lol.

My first foray into UHR, and pretty happy so far.
They didn’t shrink quite as much as I expected. The first soak was warm because I was unsure how they would react. Second soak was long and hot with plenty of agitation. Ended up losing 1.5 inches from the inseam, which suits me well.
Surprised how soft and comfortable the denim has become post-soak; i don’t envisage any break-in discomfort.
My plan is to wash these reasonably often to get low-contrast vintage fades. -
Hey all, looking for quick advice.
Got an IH-634S-UHR in 36 (my actual waist is 37). Did two hot soaks, minimal shrinkage on the second. Worn them 10-15 times now.
Waist is still a bit loose. Thigh and seat fit perfect.
Wondering if I should do a 40° machine wash now to try to get a little more shrinkage, or is it too late to matter?Main worry: if I wait until month 3-6 for the first wash and it shrinks then, won’t that shift the fades I’ve started?
Thanks

@WaxeyGordon It depends on how you soaked them. Agitation is needed to get the maximum shrinkage out of the denim. Soaking alone will not shrink them that much.
I typically will soak for about 30 minutes in hot water to ensure they are throughly soaked, and then throw them into the washing machine with a little detergent (I like using woolite dark), hot water, and little or no spin. Pull them out and hang them to dry.

@goosehd thanks for responding. This is my first unsanforized pair so probably overthinking it a bit but don’t want to ruin anything.
So before my first wear, I just soaked them in the tub with hot water for an hour and I agitated them a couple times by hand but not much. Then it was still a little loose so I repeated the same again. Now they are okay but not snug, a little loose if I pull the waist. Since then I’ve been wearing them frequently for a couple weeks.
I want to throw them in the wash now but I’m just hesitating because I’ve already worn them like 10-15 times, so I don’t know if there will be any weird consequences from washing them now since most of the advice here is to soak them and wash them before the first wear.
If I wash them now (after the initial soak and 15 or so wears), would I be ruining some of the fade potential, get any marbling or any weird stuff like that? Probably a newb question but I have no idea how this works.

@WaxeyGordon .Just soak them again for 20 minutes, then turn them inside out and put them in the washing machine no spin cycle. Air dry them and you will be fine.
-
@WaxeyGordon I'd hot soak them again for 30 minutes then wash, don't just put them in the washing machine without soaking, that's what can cause marbling depending on multiple factors... You've not had them long so washing them wont be an issue with fades or anything this early on
Just make sure you pull them out when they've finished in the washing machine and turn them right side out, I've had jeans marble from just sitting in the machine too long and left weird marks

@yannis awesome, thank you

@Jord appreciate it!

Have a few flannels and a CPO. Decided to bite the bullet and get the 634S UHR. Fit pretty well fresh and a little intrepid with the hot soak and wash but they didn’t seem to shrink all that much. Was expecting a battle to get them on and it really wasn’t all that bad. Feel pretty good! Definitely feel they are heavyweight and stiff but my Momotaros felt like they cut in more. Pleased with the cut and looking forward to breaking them in properly.
