I think these are more honey mushrooms that are growing on a tree root in my backyard. There are a couple dozen of them scattered around this larger cluster. They are pretty cool looking. I will not be eating these as the taste test a few weeks ago upset my stomach. And I only had one cap. If these are honey mushrooms, the caps are matured and opened anyway. They are better eating when young and closed still. There was a stick underneath them that had some white spores into it from this cluster, which ticks the honey box as well.

Anyone else up for the world’s first lichen-indigo IH denim?

So I didn’t find this one myself. A buddy brought it back from a wooded area circa 60 km west of my town. I was amazed at the dry, papery feel of it. Assuming it was way beyond its edible stage? No idea if it was ever a plump, moist mushroom tempting us to a bite.

Do you know what type it is? Most mushrooms can make you sick or even kill you if consumed.

No idea…quite uncommon to find people around here with some knowledge of mushrooms, other than the farmed ones. As a consequence, I’ve never heard of people trying them as food. And the published guides usually won’t cover the species around here.
