@goosehd sounds like a plan. I think the bitterness of Campari is needed to balance the Kahlua, but there’s a lot of scope for playing with the other ingredients (and maybe different combos for different moods, seasons, etc.).

@ARNC Exactly my thought with the Aperol as it’s a little sweet and needs the Campari for balance. I have both but picked the Aperol…Campari will be on the next try.

@goosehd I’m going to try and come up with a coffee/Mezcal Negroni. Been drinking Mezcal Negronis as of late using Campari, Vermouth and Mezcal. I like my cocktails spirit forward so I use a 1-1-2 ratio. Figured I’d start out by adding a half ounce of the coffee liqueur and adjust from there.

I hadn’t heard of Mr Black before and looked them up…I also can’t get in our distribution system and probably why I haven’t heard of them.

don't dismiss St. George - if they still make it, though...

Mr. Black did a Rum Cask and a Mezcal Casked aged version a while back!
If you want to spice it up I'll recommend Ancho Reyes in the mix.

                    Also fun in a negroni:

Ultimately, you can go the vintage route and try sourcing Campari from the 50's, 60's or 70's - allegedly, the formulation got changed over the decades...

@Jett129 Indeed, I really enjoyed this one. This was my first time trying a rum cask finished Mezcal, and I thought it paired wonderfully with the strawberry tres leches cake for dessert.

@SourPower When I first tried Mezcal, Ilegal was the first one I tried as they had it at a bar. I liked it,bought a bottle and started trying quite a few other/different Mezcals. All of them much better than Ilegal in terms of flavor profile and complexity. They were also a lot more expensive. Never had a Mezcal that was finished in a second barrel, and that in itself might be heresy to some. Just as a point of reference are there other mezcals that you’ve enjoyed? This thread has been quite helpful and informative when it came to trying new mezcals. To circle back, glad to hear that you liked it.
