IHM-50-NAV - 4.8oz Nylon Type L-2B Jacket - Navy
First issued to US Air Force pilots in the early 1950s, the Type L-2B flight jacket was originally designed as a lightweight alternative to the bulky MA-1. By stripping away non-essential pockets and heavy insulation, the L-2B was much sleeker than its predecessors, offering pilots enhanced comfort and manoeuvrability while in the cockpit. However, like many military surplus designs, this now iconic jacket was quickly embraced by the American youth subcultures of the 1960s, permeating pop culture where it remains a staple of rebel fashion to this day.
This take on the L2-B combines traditional materials and design features with Iron Heart’s usual over-engineered construction. The outer shell is crafted from silky smooth, scratch-resistant 4.8oz anti-static nylon, with a lightweight nylon taffeta lining. While it offers a naturally high level of water resistance, we’ve also treated the outer fabric with a highly water repellent resin coating — a non-fluorine-based formula that provides eco-conscious waterproofing.
Finished with tubular knitted, elasticated collar, cuffs and hem, a two-way zipper and two interior ‘gun’ pockets — the resulting jacket pays authentic homage to a military classic, with modern all-weather performance.

Is this version longer than the recent FW version?
-
@JerkStore As this is a sample so we won't be able to tell you definitively 'till they arrive and you can compare the charts
-
Sure is a beautiful looking jacket

-
@AdamJ is there a price on these yet?
-
@popvulture see link in shop!
-
@AdamJ Was there any request to lengthen like there was with the lightweight N1?
-
This is for sure a pick for me. So cool.
-
@JerkStore no
-
@JerkStore I'm already sad about this one
Beautiful fabric.... -
@CosmoSix5 do you also wish it were longer?
-
@JerkStore I'm guessing yes. I could be surprised but I can't wear a jacket unless it's 28" long at a minimum. I don't do the cropped stuff with my build. I'm happy that some IH doesn't fit
But that navy is so
. my build is a slight minority so it will be what it will be. -
@CosmoSix5 Last time I got an XL and it fit OK (but sold it), but I may size up to XXL for the extra length on this one depending. They're too committed to the original style on this one.
-
As long as westerns keep being long and long sleeved I'm good! And if this works out it will just be a bonus.
-
The more I see that jacket, the more I want it... Hope it's an early drop, as it would be an ideal Spring jacket.
-
@Giles do you recommend going with usual size that is applied in n1 jackets and type 3 jackets? Thanks.
-
Honestly, until we get the production run, we do not know how they will measure. Keep an eye out here and drop a note to shop@ironheart.co.uk when the chart is published and ask their advice.
-
@Indigo-Alchemist early drop it will be
-
Thanks @AdamJ, you made my day!!
