@cbmyles definitely closer to the 14oz in feeling (although heavier, obviously) and so they'll be plenty comfy straight out the bag

May I ask, what is difference is the “natural” indigo? My only pair of IH denim right now is 14oz indigo, so would there be much difference?

@gneicher Most of our denim (including your 14oz jeans) is dyed using indigo pigment that has been synthetically produced, as it offers the highest level of purity and colour consistency. However, on some occasions, such as with these jeans, we use a naturally derived indigo — a traditional method using dye pigment from the leaves of the Indigofera plant.

Technically, the chemical makeup of the pigment is identical, but because the synthetic version is purer, it requires the yarns to be dyed fewer (8-10) times. In comparison, natural indigo yarns are usually dipped around 30 times to ensure the same colour consistency. These extra layers of dye mean that the natural indigo denim appears as a slightly deeper shade of indigo and can often be worn for a longer amount of time before it starts to show signs fading. Hope that helps!

Great info, thanks. Would you mind clarifying a question about the use of organic cotton in these, is the whole pair organic cotton or is it just the warp or weft?

Either way is great, looking forward to having my pair delivered today!

@drewfonse Yes, this denim is 100% organic cotton (both warp and weft). Enjoy!

Ps. I've updated the product details on the site to make this clearer in the future, thanks for pointing it out.

I have a growing collection of IH 888 jeans in size 36 (14oz, 18oz, 21oz). They are fantastically well made and a joy to wear.
They usually measure true to size - so very close to 36" in size 36 (17.6 - 18" across waist). These new 17oz natural indigo jeans measure small according to the chart - a size 36 is 34.8", so actually a size 35 not 36. And the next size up (38) measures at 37" - which is too big.
Have people found these 17oz jeans to fit snugger that your usual size in 888 or have you had to size up from your usual size?

@MarkNo , I saw an ad for these on Self Edge's fb page.

I checked the measurements here and would have to go up one size.

I'm a 34 in 634s and a 35 in 888s. I'd have to go to a 36 in these to get my needed waist measurement.

Thanks @VegaS10 - without trying them on I would be hesitant to size up and purchase them sight unseen. Maybe next time...

I’m rarely in New York, but yesterday I was and I decided to go to the Self Edge store in lower Manhattan. Im glad I did!

First thing I see going through the door is that hoodie I wanted so bad. (Sold out on the website, and globally in my size). They only hade one, and it was in size L which happens to be my size. So sick!

I was so happy that I also bought a pair of 888N in 17oz. Absolutely an impulse buy, but I have been thinking about complementing my 888 in 25oz with a lighter pair.

Question, is it rare that Iron Heart uses natural indigo? I really like the look of the fabric, especially in direct sunlight.

A picture with both on. I will wear these hard this summer 😎

@Sunnergren natural indigo has popped up a few times over the years. Not exactly rare, but not frequent either.
