Drink Augustiner Helles from the wooden barrel and it’ll become your white whale to find locally.
-

@scooter Great to have you in Munich mate! When exactly will you be landing / leaving? I could arrange something for the 17th in the afternoon depending on your plans

Either way, some recommendations apart from the maybe more obvious ones

Augustiner Drei Mühlen for the most authentic Augustiner from the wood barrel.
Augustinerkeller also great, my favorite among the more touristy ones. Many locals go there too.Eat some of the best Kaiserschmarrn at Rumpler. Also a great authentic place to have a fresh Augustiner.
Metzgerei Gaßner for fresh authentic Münchner Weißwurst with sweet mustard (my favorite). If you’re into that… Visit before 12AM for Münchner breakfast.
Statement store is of course a must. Combine with Man vs Machine for coffee or Jaded Monkey for great Cocktails.
Walk to Viktualienmarkt, kind of touristy but definitely worth it.Walk from Odeonsplatz / Hofgarten to the surfer spot Eisbachwelle (yes they do surf in winter) and then northwards through the English garden however long you want (stretches many kilometers…). Pick up coffee at Man vs Machine and pain chocolat at Boulangerie Dompierre.
If you’re into museums / art exhibitions etc. your best bet is the „Pinakotheken“ area. Also some nice coffee shops around there. And many young people, Technical University (TUM) just around the corner.
So many more options. Just let me know what you’re into

@pechelman city cleaned the bottom of the river which destroyed the wave. surfers tried to reinstate it with an underwater barrier, which got removed by authorities - at least that is how i understood the news coverage.
-
Oh that’s a story haha. But the latest status should be that it’s up and running again after a wild guerilla surfer action where they (anonymously) installed wooden elements bringing the wave back.
@scooter No waste of time just stopping by and checking personally, it’s right in the city center and English Garden is worth it anyways

My favorite restaurant/beer hall was Nürnberger Bratwurstglöckl. Highly recommend it. Right in the city center.
-
In addition to the augustiner recommendations one of my other favorites is Ayingers directly across from hofbrauhaus. Everytime I've been they have their jahrhundert lager in wood cask pouring. While augustiner helles is my favorite Munich beer, this is my second favorite. The food was always consistently great too the few times we've been. Funny enough, we've always had the same waitress too, though I doubt she remembers.

I'll be arriving early evening of the 15th, with a 2 day stay booked. My plan is to hop a train to Berlin on the 17th. Which train I take will be determined by how much fun I'm having...

@Tago-Mago , would you be down for this on the 16th ?

I'm easy. I'm into architecture, and injecting myself into the culture. If anything, I just want to live like a local for a couple of days...

@scooter Table is booked for Friday 16th 6PM at Drei Mühlen with wooden barrel Augustiner off the tap

1 extra seat reserved if someone wants to join @Tago-Mago

Otherwise I’ll ask Pipo. -
@don_pipone also joining

-
Great! Looking forward to it. I will grab my cam an try snapping a few shots for us. Thx @weftyarn for booking a table.
-
@Tago-Mago , yes, keep me in the loop. If nothing else came up, my plan was to simply meander around Old Town.
