John Steinbeck is my favorite author (tied with Bukowski to be fair).

I’m reading East of Eden again. First time was about 15-20 years ago…like discovering it all over again. Absolute perfection.

Good shout @Mizmazzle, I have not read East of Eden but read The Grapes of Wrath 25 years ago and it blew me away with the descriptive detail.

Feel like I need to revisit TGOW or perhaps try EOE.

@Bridger Grapes is amazing!! One of my all time favorites. But then pretty much all of his work is top tier. East of Eden is an epic work in line with TGOW…it’s been so long since I read that one too. I may need to go back to back on these classics.

The book references Nelson having breakfast at the George hotel in Portsmouth. It this a decent enough hotel to stay or would people recommend other places in Portsmouth?

I will need a locals decoder ring to understand the rest 😊

I am currently in Argentiere, Chamonix valley, reading this. Took me a while to figure I probably should be more discreet with my reading material 😁

its funny how the old algorithm works. i just added this to my 'to-read' pile (thanks for the recommendatio!) and once i opened youtube, this was one of the first suggestions

long-ish but fun watch about the HMS Victory.

i've recently finished The Thirty Years War
                                          f87b10d3-fd94-4a90-8653-954fdf2b2c32-image.png

Its a long one, and very in-depth, and with so many events and people to cover it can be confusing but overall a very good read.

I was also enjoyed Endurance by Lansing. Such an incredible story. At times its hard to believe it a true story and that man can survive such an ordeal.

My Dad was talking about the Endurance the other day. Never really read much about it so it's going on the list!
