Hard Drinkers, Lets Drink Hard (Spirits, Liquors and Cocktails)

@Jett129 the price and industrial methods used on their other bottles make them something I’d have to sample before purchasing (seem like tahona + prices for roller mill production). But this one seems like a throwback to how tequila was produced before a lot of it kind of got ruined and industrialized. A book I’m reading gets into what happened when the government interfered and a lot of the traditional producers modernized, industrialized, and compromised to keep up with demand and maximize profit.
These guys using direct flame on the piñas and hatchets on them before the shredder sounds interesting, even if there is a lot of modern production after that.
It would be interesting to see this guy use a clay still or even a copper alembic or refrescadora, or produce expressions with highland Weber, not so much to improve as just to see how things change.

@motojobobo I’m a Uigeadail man! Would love to taste the others

Tree is up a little early

BB = bourbon basics

Usually not one for mixes but 1:4:1 of these left to right made a mean Mezcalito / mad dog margarita. A little smoke from the Rey Campero, and some vegetal jalapeño pepper from the Derrumbes which is autoclaved so no smoke went well with the jalapeño marg mix.

-
@Mizmazzle oh man, wish I was there to share a dram with you…enjoy and report!
(I mean I know you’ve tried it but savoring a whole bottle will be next level)
-
Picked up this cacao pechuga today. Clay still, which I especially love.

!Por Lo Bueno is one of the best values in agave and I !got this sampler 6 pack of all their products as well. Excited about that too! I’ve only had the tobalá and it punches way above its price.
-
@Mizmazzle How can that not elicit memories of when you first tried it. I'm glad to hear that you acquired a bottle, maybe it will inspire me to get one as I have never tried that one. And after checking,my local store is currently out of it.
-
@mclaincausey i don’t think the first one is the same as the one that you got and the second one is one of their single barrels. How is the price on the first one. It’s the cheapest one they have.

-
@Jett129 no it’s definitely the same bottle linked, which is their Espadin cacao pechuga. They don’t mention the cacao on the details on the back, but it is mentioned on the front label. They also had the rabbit pechuga, which is similarly labeled and made in a smaller batch.
No barrel is involved, it is Joven
It was under $90. The rabbit variant was $120. They had a tepeztate Puntas in the $200 range and a few others a bit dear for me at the moment from other producers like Pa-Alma, Rezpiral, and others.
-
@mclaincausey Years ago,I had gotten a bottle of the Rezpiral on your recommendation and it still remains one of my all time favorites. They haven’t had it in stock since. Do you think the bottle they’re showing would be worth trying?…The less expensive one.
-
@Jett129 which one? They had 4 at the store I went to but they were in the $150 range which was $20 over my budget.
When I land a job soon I may see if they have any left to celebrate

This is the one I really want. A shitty liquor store with zero selection of decent juice listed it online for $64. I knew it was too good to be true. Extremely primitive production from a northern Oaxacan village with its own culture and language. Should be a funky good time.
-
@mclaincausey I was asking about the Destilado con Cacao at $94. I would wait until they did one of their Agave spirits sales, usually 15% off which would bring the price down to about $80.
-
@Jett129 I haven’t opened it yet but that seems like a screamin deal. I was fine with $86.
This place is my favorite agave shop since Golden Liquors closed down, but on the other side of town. Golden Liquors has since reopened, but under new ownership. The prior owner only cared about agave and visited the producers frequently. Huge loss.
There is one comparable place I’ve found and I may trek over there soon.
