IH-633S - Self Edge x Iron Heart 21oz Selvedge Straight Tapered
-
Howdy y’all. Looking for rise some feedback please. I recently picked up a pair of 21oz 633s. For the last few years, I’ve stuck to buying jeans with a medium-high rise. Usually in the 11.5inch range for front rise, and 15 inch back rise give or take. This is where I feel most comfortable. I rolled the dice a little bit with the 633 and as I wasn’t able to get a specific pair from SE, I ended up receiving a pair with 10.75 inch FR and 14.5 inch BR.
Having worn them a little bit, I’m aware of the rise being a little lower than I’m accustomed to, front and back. But as I’m to used to a medium-high rise, I’m struggling to figure out how I feel about this 10.75/14.5 inch rise and whether it works. Generally, I think it’s a good fit overall - love the thigh and slight taper. If they were definitely too low a rise I’m sure I would’ve sent them back immediately. I’ve tried pairs where that was definitely the case.
Just looking for feedback as to whether you think these look in the range of “ok” and that they’ll work out. Won’t be seeking out 10.5 inch rises specifically in the future though.

Here’s my PBJ-019 which has a 11.5/15 rise which I feel very comfortable in.

Look great to me. I understand the scepticism/discomfort that comes with moving outside of your subjective comfort zone, but you’re golden here. Relax and enjoy.
Also, the only objective problem with a low rise is the risk of plumbers crack. Find a good friend, then bend, crouch and squat a lot in front of them. If there’s a problem you will be told

-
@neph93 appreciate the insight, man! I think I’m in agreement. There’s not a ton of clearance but I think the crack is safe haha.
-
@americanathreads when I got mine I was worried about this also. The 21oz definitely relaxes a ton. I hadn’t worn mine in a while and it was like putting sweatpants on.
-
@ZackB yeah it’s super soft off the bat. I’m sure it’ll be very comfy after a while. Do you mean it relaxed and you got a bit of stretch in the rise?
-
@americanathreads not stretch on the rise but the back doesn’t flare out as much when it relaxes.

Second day wearing my 633S-SBG on a trip to the east coast visiting a buddy. I went with the larger (38) of the 2 sizes that fit me because the rise/hips felt like they were going to give me some trouble sitting in them for a 5 hr plane flight in the smaller size. I like the 38’s leg better for sure, but damn, 2 weeks in and yall are right about the SBG stretching a bit. I’m happy with my choice, but may go with a more snug size next time around picking up some SBG…*didn’t see a 633S-SBG thread, sorry if I was lazy and there is one
-
@sophisto000 The 633 is a Self Edge exclusive cut and there are no SBG related threads. This will work.

Finally got 6 months in

Took some pictures since I need to send these in for pocket bag repair. Few years in rotation

I finally pulled the trigger on the 633 cut in SBG
Self edge has sizing that doesn’t seem right compared to IH site, and even the 633 cut in SBG seems different than the other 633 fabrics so last year I went with the 555 instead size 36 instead.
The 555 was great, I love them, but for an even better fit I could use a little more room in the thigh to make stair climbing easier.I was skeptical of the sizing in the site, how could a tag 38 only measure 35” waist.
I rolled the dice and it worked out, they fit great, the waist works for now and should stretch out a bit to be perfect, thighs have more room to move, hem is still under 9” which I like.Anyways here’s my confirmed measurements in case anyone else is wondering how they measure up.
Ironheart 633 SBG 21oz self edge
Chart / actual new
Tag 38
Waist 35 / 35.25
Thigh 13.5 / 14 (13 from crotch seam)
Front 12 / 12
Rear 16 / 16.5
Knee 9.7 / 9.75
Leg 8.5 / 8.75 -
SE’s methodology for measuring these dimensions differs from IHUK. Look into those deets. The SBG and latest collab has higher rise compared to older 633 models…more akin to 888 now. better fit imho. good luck. i just got these in SBG too….excited to fade some black into grey!
