@Anesthetist I owned the 28 and now the 79. It’s light and warm. Won’t get you in sub freezing that well without another layer. But that’s how I wear it. If you need something for 30-40F give or take you know… it’s perfect. The best part is layering it. So I usually would throw on either a hoodie underneath or another jacket over top. That can get you to like 20F if necessary… you’ll have to be moving to keep the heat inside. As a light jacket. It’s one of my favorites I’ve used for the PA lately fall, winter, and early spring. Plus the pockets are super useful. I think you’re in the south so it would do just fine in winters that aren’t that harsh. It’s not waterproof, but can handle some drizzle. It can’t handle being saturated with snow as an outer layer. So that’s why it’s an under layer in winter and over in coolness. What’s also great is that it cleans up very well. A handwash and line dry is great, but it can’t handle being also handle light washer/dryer too. If you don’t need a mountain parka eVent… then this is the next best technical jacket by IH

@Fadez thanks for that info man. I’ve always been intrigued by these and recently sold my n1 because it was way to warm for where I’m at. We’re mostly in the 30s down here and this sounds like it would be perfect.

This vs the ihj 153 primaloft….which would you go with and why? What are the key differences to consider? I’d probably be using as a travel jacket and occasionally around town. Which is lighter, more packable, more wind/water resistant?

if you want something water resistant, the cordura is the way to go.

Something to keep you warm and a bit more packable, then primaloft.

Both excellent options for the colder months

The devil is in the detail..

@68degreesorless As a person who owns the original Primaloft jacket and the original unlined Cordura Windbreaker, I can say the Primaloft is VERY appropriate for colder environments that have high winds. The Cordura Windbreaker definitely blocks wind and the other elements, but it won't keep you that warm. It's a great shell over hoodies. I got an XL, but lost like 30 pounds in the past 2 years, so it's a bit big on me. However, because of the extra space, it's great for layering. What I can say is that the Primaloft jacket is absolutely awesome for outdoor night concerts in San Francisco / Bay Area weather. It's very light, keeps you warm, and completely blocks the wind. Above all, the pockets are perfect! I'm glad they went back to the original configuration with this new iteration. I just purchased the lined Cordura Windbreaker this morning, and I can't wait to get it in the mail. Seriously, I don't think you will regret getting either one.

@sgelam super helpful thank you. Would be glad to hear your thoughts on the fleece lined version vs the primaloft once you get it. Seems like with the fleece, it could be pretty warm too. Also wondering if it’s a lot heavier and bulkier or just a little.

@grambosaurus I am tagging @ShopatIronHeart for confirmation, but I do not think so as the product has already went live and possibly sold out.

@RubyRae "warmer" is largely subjective based on how hot/cold you run. However, I would say the Primaloft will keep you warmer.

@AdamJ Ya, I should have phrased that as better insulating properties and/or wind resistance? It's tricky to tell because the CORDURA looks a bit tougher and wind resistant on outer shell, and the PrimaLoft appears better in keeping the warmth in vs the fleece. Both very nice versatile jackets.
                                        Thank you!
