      Should have taken a before shot. These were pretty much covered in mud. I wear them pretty hard fishing, hiking, backpacking…I’m not really sure how to care for the CF Stead waxy commander leathers.

      I rinsed em, wiped with a wet cloth and then brushed em a bunch. A good amount of the loft came back from the rough out. They were rather beat down before.

      You can see the rough out has de waxed and is being sloughed off in spots. Eventually it’s going to get smoothed over in most places. Anyone know the recommended care for this leather? I guess soon enough it will be just like smooth out leather.

          @Mizmazzle my 310s are waxy commander. In my minimum research looks like you can condition what is revealed or rewax them. Curious what you decide, mine aren’t that far along yet but I think I’ll just condition when the time comes.

            @ZackB thanks buddy. The Viberg site says to treat their rough out leathers in the same manner as suede. But these waxy leathers are different still.

            I don’t plan to re wax I don’t think. I think now that the wax is basically all gone, I’ll just treat em like a rough out, and use water and brush em out.

            Viberg recommends a marseille soap/ shampoo. Maybe I’ll try that to help lift the dirt.

              @Mizmazzle let me know how it goes! I’m going to be in the same boat down the road. Maybe somebody with some first hand experience will chime in. I

                @ZackB that’s what I’m hoping for…

                I do look forward to the day when the leather becomes all smooth. Will be a totally different looking boot.

                  @Mizmazzle Both pairs of boots look epic. I love looking at a nice pair of broken in boots. I’ve had luck using a small wire brush to fluff up the rough out leather on the toe area of my boots. The back of the heels are worn smooth and I like the look/feel. Mainly use the wire brush on the toes when I thought they needed it with good results.

                    @Denman-John thanks for the input, John. Do you mean an actual wire brush or a stiff bristle brush?

                    I agree..I love the rubbed down leather too. I think the boots are going to look so good when there’s like 30% and more rubbed smooth area.

                      @Mizmazzle It’s an actual small wire toothbrush that I used in small areas where I wanted to”fluff” up the leather a bit. I think I might have got it at the Viberg shop in Victoria, but there is no branding on it so I may be wrong. Works great when needed.

                        @Denman-John I guess when I think wire brush my mind goes to something like this…which I wouldn’t use on my boots..think I last used this to clean my grill.

                          @Mizmazzle Something like that, but a little smaller and not as mangled 🤣 It works well with a gentle touch in spot areas, but I wouldn’t use it on the whole boot by any means. I used it on the toe area once a couple of months after I bought the boots. Since then I have left them natural with a couple of brushing when needed. I was a bit more anal when I first got them, now I embrace the patina.

                          Edit: Looking closer at you pictures again, I would be hesitant to use the wire brush as I was thinking it was a straight rough out leather. Kinda skipped over the part where you mentioned waxy ✌️

                            I think I’m just gonna let em get beat down au natural too. Wet cloth wipe down and a dry horse hair brushing seems to work well. Maybe I’ll try some
                            Sort of rough out conditioner one day. For now…full bore assault!!
