Perhaps this is only a coffee table mag.
But in the end, it is dying print media.
So I leave it here, in ‘books’.

Definitely something for your ‘waiting room’ @endo ;-).

Love that the stories are interactive.

Here a story about the Dolomites for example.

Honestly, I bought this book because of its great cover …

However Micheal Palin really did not disappoint. This man is talented in so many ways and one of his great strengths is story telling. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in adventure writing.

At some point every year I look at the nominees for the Hugo awards and get an idea of what's considered (subjectively of course, but nonetheless consensus) the best recent sci fi. I picked up and read The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett (which ended up winning best novel) and Adrian Tchaikovsky's Alien Clay, both of which were f'n excellent.

I'll definitely try to get a copy!

I would recommend Seize the Fire by Adam Nicolson. I found the social differences between England, France and Spain at the time very interesting and contributory to the battle outcome.

@Bridger Thank you for the recommendation. I love to read and wanted to know more about the areas that I have been visiting. It started by growing up in areas heavily affected by battles of the Civil War and visiting those battle fields. Now a bit older and visiting different parts of the world, wanting to know more about them and their histories.

I really should do more reading about the history of places I visit.

I am off to Japan next year. Any reading recommendations from the forum are welcome.

@popvulture finished The Tainted Cup and looking to read the sequel…have you read? Really enjoyed it but had to keep my mind sharp to follow the Holmes-esque attention to detail.

I haven’t read the sequel to TC yet, been waiting til it comes out in paperback. I’ve gotten back to reading Neal Stephenson’s Cryptonomicon, which is enormous but hilarious and rewarding so far. I started it earlier this year but had to restart because I put it down to read a couple easier books 😂
