I've been sitting on the sidelines for awhile as I bought both the Self Edge / Iron Heart collaboration as well as the 526 LOD. Additionally, my plan was to get the original "Lefty" in indigo as I've wanted one for years. With all that being said, the 526 LOD seemed to have chosen me, as it's just about perfect in what I'm looking for and what I hope to get many miles out of. No disrespect to the other jackets, especially the "Lefty", but I know the LOD is ready for concerts as well as skateboarding with my son (we do longboarding as well as surfskating). Fall is just around the corner, and this special piece of armor that is already forming itself to my body by just wearing it around the house during sweltering summer days outside seems ready to rock and roll. Not sure if this adds to the commentary, but just wanted to chime in anyway. Smoke em if you got em!!

Thanks for the help everyone! I got mine! Can’t wait to put some wear into it as best as I can. First iron heart jacket and hopefully not the last iron heart piece of clothing when the budget permits again 🤭 XL fits great on my shoulders with a bit of room if I need layering in cold countries. The sleeves are too long but I can always just add a fold and that helps to accommodate a watch on the wrist too.

Thanks iron heart crew for reaching out before processing my order and the service was great! This experience alone makes me want to get another piece soon.

I am under the impression that this is one of the toughest jackets to break in. How long has it taken for someone to break it in. For example in terms of sleeve mobility / softness etc.

@Northman it is a lot easier to break in that its non-overdyed counterpart the IH-526L.

The overdying definitely softens it up. It took me about 3-4 months of regular wear before I found it got a lot comfier to wear. Your mileage may vary based on how much you wear it of course!

@Northman to be honest I never felt mine very hard to break in. I wore it on my way to work for a couple weeks and it softened up enough to feel broken in for me, but even after about a year it was not soft like a 21oz jacket on day one. It's very personal and what you are used to wear will affect when you will see your jacket as broken in.

Pretty wearable straight-away imo. I'm glad my preference was for the overdyed version (sizing, break-in). Awesome jacket.

Agree with others, would say that the overdyeing itself is the breaking-in process. Buttons were tough though, cant even imagine a fresh 526L buttons.

So…. For those who bought first time recently what’s the journey been like. I had to send mine back as I didn’t think I could hack it… but I loved it so much I’m thinking should I reorder it. It looked amazing, it was just sooooo stiff. How are people finding it wearing regularly?? Has it been forgiving ??

Enjoying it a lot. It's still more stiff than the 21oz but it's not terrible. And I love how trim the arms/cuffs are. I actually traded in my Galaxy watch Ultra for the new thin Watch 8 now it's perfect.

@FlavourFade Thanks. For me it's always the sleeves around the area of the forearm that is a high stress area and with IH-9526PJ 21oz there has not been any problem because it is quite roomy in the sleeves and soft in my opinion. But with CPO and shirts the area always takes some time to first develop creases and then soften up and stretch. So I was wondering how that area might ''break in'' with this jacket.

Is this your first Ironheart jacket/cpo? Just for reference to try help. I got mine like 5-6 months ago, it was kinda stiff at first, compared to my CPOs, and other type 3(14oz) but I liked it(denim armor/hug ). And nothing compared to the indigo lefty tried on recently. Plus it was kinda cool toss on the ground and watch it stand up lol. It broke in rather quickly but I wore it everyday 8hrs at work, and everywhere else for a month. And been keeping it going, it’s looking really good imo. It’s one of my favorites, and in heavy rotation with my 292. If you like it should re order it back from IH, it’s a great piece and once you break it in, just going keep getting better and better.

@meatmarketdenim1 hey thank you.. yes this is my first IH jacket.. I loved it but I kept looking at it and it was weird seeing a jacket not kinda slump on top of itself.. I kept thinking “what the hell would I do with this on a plane - it would take up all the overhead luggage compartment it just does not want to fold” 😂😂bizarre train of thought I know but hey that’s what my brain said…. It’s good to know yours is breaking in - I did ask on another forum at the time whether this jacket would break in but someone said no, it just won’t get softer or drape which is what convinced me to return it…. BUT… I can’t stop thinking!!!
