@Tago-Mago I don’t know about that. Our speed limit on the local 401 is 110km/h, everyone travels 120-130km/h before the police start raising eyebrows. That is unless you’re being stupid and following too closely, dangerous lane changes, etc.

Oz is the same with speed limits everywhere is basically 60 kmph unless it’s a freeway type road then it’s 110

And we like to fine people lots
I got done on the way home from the last camping trip between some point to point average cameras I only averaged 122 and that’s cost me $582 and 3 points

Yeah, but that's the point. What do you do with the other 3 gears?

…and one of the many reasons I don’t own one. Practicality vs just about every other variable against it. Weather, road conditions, laws, family size, insurance rates, target for theft, expenses to own and maintain, etc…but it’s a dream to own something so beautifully made and crafted.

An iPhone, Casio, or Rolex (or just about any other brand) all do the same thing. Price points are all over the board, but it still doesn’t keep one from dreaming.

As a kid, I watched Magnum PI driving around the island in a Ferrari and dreamt of owning one. As I grew older, tastes changed to Porsche as I liked the lines of the car better. Seeing @Marc2706 posing the other day in front of his, only reinforces it. When a car from 1957 still looks 1000 times better than 99% of cars made today, you realize that maybe they are doing something right…

So yeah, you guys are all right.

Driving back from Sabbath we came through the Cotswolds. I didn’t realise how posh that area is. There were a lot of beautiful vintage Jags, Porsches and lots of Ferraris, including the Magnum PI model out for a Sunday drive.

One of these years I plan on going to Goodwood to see the classic cars and bikes race around the track…another dream. 🙂

I took my dad to The Festival of Speed for his birthday before covid. It was the Aston Martin's 70 year anniversary so they did a fancy James Bond show. Goodwood is a pretty epic affair and well worth the trip.

I absolutely see your point. Some things are just beautifully made.

I'm not a car person (I have a VW Caddy ...). However I am sympathetic with your desire for a beautiful car.

I am contemplating the idea of buying a lugged steel bicycle frame that is far too heavy and doesn't even allow for contemporary breaks. Importing such a frame from the US to Germany is economically a silly idea.

But at the end of the day it's all about beauty.

As I sit in this 93° sweltering Atlanta heat I’m thinking again about pulling the trigger on the dream of a little place for the weekend/longer get aways. We still have about a decade of kids in school (12,16,17, 17 and 23) but over the few years should loosen up a little bit in terms of needing to be around for them on the weekends, etc.

Not exactly what I would do(interior finish) but generally speaking something along this line, super simple lines and construction. Of course, being a home builder/GC and the wife being an interior designer/GC I have a feeling that the simple getaway could potentially turn into something else…

Would like to do the Shou Sugi Ban technique on the exterior siding/veneer and something with a little more “soul” on the interior.

@goosehd I also remember Thomas Magnum driving in his red Ferrari. I never have missed a single episode of this series. For sure I agree with you the the design of the Porsche 356 is really timeless. I own this car for 28 years and I still love it just as much as I did on day one. And 28 years ago the prices very reasonable in comparison to now.

Just picked up a size 38 Studio D'artisan green fatigue pant and they are comparable to size 5 Orslow(I have a few). The 40 would probably be a size 6 if Orslow had one. Other than the zipper fly on the studio versus the buttonfly no difference…
