IHE-37-BLK - 21oz Denim Waist Bag - Superblack Non-Fade
-
@Mizmazzle before Giles confirmed the sun fading, I had thought it was dirt and oils and most of it would come out. Also I didn't think super black non fade would change so much. Mostly this is now a past issue of my expectations of it returning to more black, but now I know what's going on it's all good.

@pechelman glad you feel good about it now! I'm about to give my 51 a post travels wash myself!

This is what frustrates me with Iron Heart, it seems like many people own this brand to keep it in pristine condition in a museum. It was designed as biker and work wear that is meant to be used and worn and eventually beat to hell from life’s experiences. If everything this company makes is meant to make “sick “ fades, why would this shoulder bag be exempt from eventually changing?

@pechelman I appreciate your post dude, I got one of these bags about 8 months ago and the top of mine is dirty from a couple trips, or so I thought??
Now I'm a bit curious if it's also sun bleached from leaving it out at the beach all day a few times. All part of the wabi sabi as you said, but you might have saved me going through the same repetitive process of trying to get the dirt off

@pechelman let me try to clarify my thoughts better. When I see your bag that is changing colors, what I really see is a bag that’s been on 1000 adventures that have hopefully been a lot of fun and excitement. Have you ever heard of what is called “the observer effect”? What it essentially means is that when you see something or you are in the presence of something, it changes you or you change it just by the simple act of observing. That’s what I think about when I see your bag, you have changed it and it has changed you through all of your adventures with it. I personally think that’s pretty cool. It makes me want to get one:)

Thanks @jimcord, I do appreciate your clarification.
The bag has been everywhere with me for almost two years now, daily. It's been well loved. My initial disappointment in the result was based upon an incorrect assumption that it was dirt, with the expectation that it could be cleaned, just like a dirty pair of jeans. Now that I know what happened, there's no more disappointment.

@pechelman I’m personally very thankful for this little saga as I also had no idea that the SB sun bleached like this.. your bag looks awesome too by the way.
A quick question for @giles would the 12oz Johnny Cash shirt end up similar to this if left out in the sun enough?
-
@DeeDee85 a few posts up @Giles says it'd go brown. not sure if he was joking or it's referring to a different fabric. Interesting to see the saga @pechelman has been on.
-
The superblack vest is the same fabric as the IHE-37-BLK, so it will go brown if subject to direct sunlight for long enough. There are loads of different versions of the Johnny Cash, the reactive dyed superblack version however, should also go brown, it's the same dyeing method.

@pechelman Thanks for the updates and think it looks great. This reminds me I need to clean my 51 …

@pechelman said in IHE-37-BLK - 21oz Denim Waist Bag - Superblack Non-Fade:
I'm thinking I'll reinforce the fraying edges with a little sashiko type stitching unless there are other ideas.
Since there were no other ideas, I went ahead and did this last night. Tried my best to keep things straight/even but it was tricky being it was mostly on a curved surface with lots of piping in the way.

@pechelman That red is killer!
-
@pechelman bag looks awesome
I think it has a worn in beat up look that should be embraced.
-
You did that by hand? Stitching is clean and crisp!:)
