Did the best i could with the time I had available and lingering hurricane blustery drizzle that persisted most of the day.
Hit up Franklin Road to try on a dehen shawl sweater, neither the two sizes I thought would be right worked for me. Good as well because it was the most aggressively scratchy wool I've ever tried. The Filson mackinaw may as well be cashmere. (semi-hyperbole but also not really). Overall the staff there was really fantastic and helpful even taking time to circle a few places for lunch on a town map,
so then....grabbed a quick lunch in downtown franklin at Old Glory. Had a pretty decent burger with AMAZING fries, the drinks looked good but it was still a little early for me.
Got into Nashville proper, did some work for an hour after my drive up from Huntsville, and then ventured out into moderate drizzle. Started at 12th street, Immogene and Willie to checkout some t-shirts, grabbed a quick pic of the Nashville mural,
found a local resident who is super stoked about halloween,
and then did a bit of a mini bar crawl from grabbing a great jungle bird riff at the Chopper, which felt like what would happen if you made a Tiki bar themed after equal parts of Mos Eisley and Spongebob,
then to an amazing original cocktail at the Fox (thanks @chrisjohnnick) where I walked right in to the last open seat at the bar,
and then to grab some actual food (not pictured) and maaaybe the best drink of the night at Bee and Butcher.
Despite having only a mediocre dinner, probably b/c this place is better for sharing food with a few people, I had a good time roaming around trying to avoid getting too wet and found most everyone super friendly compared to some other places I've traveled solo for work.
Until next time, Nashville!

You did great for a one day stop in Nashville! Butcher and Bee is great, haven't been for dinner in a while, but their lunch menu is always great. I crave their whipped feta dip on the regular. Love Chopper, too. Only downside is it's in what used to be a friend's awesome clothing store that closed down several years ago.
I think the thing that impresses me most about your visit is that you didn't just spend the whole time on downtown broadway. It's such a tourist trap void of any culture and originality these days. I don't get why some people come to Nashville and spend an entire weekend there. It's like going to NYC and only doing Times Square.

Off with the family to Nashville for a couple of weeks.
Any recommendations re: clothing/boots/hats stores. Food wise - as I am taking the kids - steak, pancakes/breakfast and pretty traditional Southern US fare. Nothing too exotic.
-
And am doing a couple of nights in Memphis as well. Any recommendations for there?

Born and raised in Nashville (and never really left)... Some places that are good that are not in the downtown area are Sperry's (steakhouse with good cocktails and a salad bar). Roze Pony has souffle pancakes that are pretty damn good. Park Cafe is a cool / more local / nice but casual dining place. Edley's BBQ is next to Park Cafe. Five Points Pizza (2 locations). Dose Coffee and 8th and Roast are good for coffee. Some things closer to downtown that are local favorites would be the Pharmacy (for lunch / beer with a family), Pancake Pantry, Lockeland Table, City House (wood burning oven pizzas). As stated above, there's Imogene and Willie and RRL. My buddy owns French's Shoes and Boots and has a lot of cowboy boot stuff. There's Lucchese boots in the Gulch.

@dubj7 what do you think of Husk downtown? One of our favorites!

I recently went back through town and was with a group of people this time and went back to the butcher and bee. We got the chef's tasting menu and had an amazing dinner. This is definitely the way to do it and wouldn't hesitate to return. Everyone raved about it and decided that they'd never travel without me again to find places to eat.

@Anesthetist I do like Husk. It’s been a while since I’ve been there though.

@Crispy-Heron You're here for a whole couple of weeks? Whatchu getting into?
There really isn't much of a market in the Nashville area for Iron Heart adjacent clothing these days. There is Franklin Road Apparel (30 or so mins south of downtown Nashville) and Imogene + Willie for what'd Id say is more of a easy breezy southern Cali vibe these days. Also Stag Provisions which is down the street from I+W. For boots and hats, are you looking for cowboy hats and boots, or more traditional everyday type stuff?
For food, I still stand behind my recs above which are my favorites. Lockeland Table, City House and Butcher and Bee are great, Jeni's Ice cream which the kids will probably love (and multiple locations around town), probably more that I'll think of later.

Are you going to Memphis for something specific, or just looking to hit another spot near Nashville on the trip?
I haven't been to Memphis in almost 20 years, other than just driving through to other places, but these days I'd probably say there is more to do if you head down to Chattanooga and Atlanta.

@chrisjohnnick - and everyone else who came up with recommendations. Good work.
Sadly, the trip is now off. Due to fly today but my mum got admitted to hospital last night. She is very ill and we just couldn’t go. A total bummer but we are planning to go back to Nashville next year (fingers crossed).
Here’s hoping that my mum’s health improves but thanks again everyone for their suggestions.
