I read that Hamilton is Hadjar's idol, and the reason, apart from the fact he won 7 (8!) championships and 100+ races etc, was he did it cleanly. And that pretty much sums it up for me, Vestappen might be a great and incredibly talented, but if you are dirty...
And I dont think its about having a 'killer instinct' that the winners have - you can have that without barging into people
-
LH did have a reputation for being immature and reckless in his early days, so I wouldn't say he's always been squeaky clean. Ayrton Senna is regarded by many as the greatest driver and he certainly didn't shy away from questionable tactics. Same with Schumacher. Verstappen's issue is that he still pulls shit like yesterday, and these instances somehow always happen when things aren't going his way. Winning in style is one thing, losing in style another. Not sure if he knows how to do the former, he certainly doesn't know how to do the latter.
-
Yeah I mean are we then saying that the likes of Schumacher and Senna aren’t among the greats because of similar transgressions?
If Verstappen was consistently improving his placement using shady tactics, I would agree that would tarnish how good of a racer he should be deemed to be. I don’t think that’s the case here though. This was just an immature and ill advised set of moves that took him from P3 to P10, so it is already reflected in the result.
Completely agree he’s just a sore loser. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a great driver IMO. And until FIA really drops the hammer on him he doesn’t have enough reason not to do dumb shit like this.
-
I think Senna, Schumacher, Verstappen are all greats of F1, but that doesnt take away the fact that they would use underhand tactics - Schumacher running into Hill to stop him out winning the championship, for example.
I still think he (Schumacher) is one of the best drivers ever, as is Senna and Verstappen, I don't believe Hamilton is better - I don't think you can truly say who is the GOAT, its just they go down a touch in my estimation because how they act when they feel like it, which is true in everyday life I suppose.
I do think that F1 should start being a bit stronger on things like this, until they do, it will always happen (not just Verstappen doing it)
-
What Schumi did to Hill is unforgivable. Agreed with all you said.
My main thesis here is that skill wise Verstappen stacks up there among those greats, even with his intemperance, impulsiveness, and recklessness when he isn’t winning. And I have to admit that as someone who really isn’t a fan of the kid.

lol Lando trolling:
My take is that max lifted early, expecting Russell to overtake before the turn. Then decided he wasn’t going to wait around. He didn’t intend to avoid him after that. It was def on max, but I can’t say I blame his frustration because after all, he technically never needed to give the position back. There have been far too many interventions and micromanagement of the drivers from the pit wall and stewards. I say let them race.
As a Max and RB fan, I think he was in the wrong, but his driving and racecraft are on another level. It’s frustration with the sports management, and his insanely competitive nature that causes these inchidents with him. It’s def his weakness.

It’s really not acceptable to deliberately wreck these cars. Obviously driver safety comes first, but you’re fucking over your and at least one other team’s engineers.
He really needs to be disciplined more than they did. It’s a very big deal.

This guys mood swings… good comeback.Think he can do it again at Silverstone? Or is it Pastry?
Is Max going to have his season sabotaged by Merc to get him out of RB and replace Russell!? Lol -
If Oscar wins in Silverstone, I think that will mess even more with Lando's peri-peri.
22 degrees will help the Mercs, so maybe a good result for Georgie boy

ferrari 1-2

I'm backing Oscar, Aussie pride. But I love the fight between him and Lando, they're well matched and are being allowed to compete.
-
So psyched for Hulk!!!! Lando did good. I don’t think piastri’s penalty was controversial. It was a good and wild, fair race. Sucks for Max but that’s the car…

what a race from hulk. this race could've gone any way... sauber nailed it with his driving and strategy!
