Zig zag is right next to pike place. Amazing cocktails and atmosphere with some solid food. There's also a tiny pasta place tucked in the market proper that does daily specials that I love but it's not exactly a pleasant place to hang out. Casalinga is kinda behind delaurenti (an amazing Italian market) and upstairs in the atrium with the giant kraken hanging. For street food I also really like the hombow from mee sum pastry right there.

      Edit
Oh, also post alley pizza who also have an amazing sandwich is just a few blocks south. And I think there's a dough zone just opened there too instead of din tai fung for soup dumplings. Dtf is generally better and nicer but you're walking distance to DZ.

      Edit2
Westward also for oysters/seafood with an amazing view of the city. I also like the whale wins and joule right next door.

        @jdwaid here are my suggestions:

Kedai Makan (Malaysian - 2 locations - DT, Cap Hill)

Dingfelders (Jewish Deli on Cap Hill)

Cafe Munir (Middle Eastern in Ballard)

Taylor Shelfish or Walrus & Carpenter (PNW Oyster Bar)

Ray’s (good happy hour spot with great waterfront views, @pechelman this is the upstairs restaurant…downstairs is something else)

RockCreek or Westward or Whale Wins (better seafood in Fremont)

Shiro’s or Maneki or Mashiko or Musashi’s (Sushi in DT, ID, West Seattle, or Fremont)

Sunny Hill or Delancey or Lupo or Humble Pie (Pizza in Ballard x2, Fremont, or Rainier Ave)

        Homer (Mediterranean in Beacon Hill)

        Tamarind Tree (Vietnamese in ID)

        Salumi (Sandwiches in Pioneer Square)

Revel (Korean in Fremont near Blue Owl)

They're both Ray's which is the confusion people have had when I've sent them there. The lower is their fine dining side, which I think is actually called the Boathouse. The one I'm very intentional with recommending to people by telling them to "just walk up the stairs" is apparently called the cafe. Regardless, it's a good spot.

Also adding a few of your items to our list to try, though I've not had good experiences at dingfelders. Some of the worst pastrami I think i've ever had.

@pechelman interesting. just went to web and looks like you’re correct. Host downstairs told me the contrary.

re Dingfelders: that’s surprising. Maybe their pastrami quality is variable. I’m batting 4 for 4 v happy. In my mind it’s as good as Katz’s in NYC…however because we dont have a lot of this type food here and been long time since visiting SENYC I could be mistaken?!

I used to live across the street from Ray’s! If you’re going to go out that way definitely check out the locks or golden gardens

Any feedback of how parking is in the downtown areas? We'll be staying on Bainbridge Island our first night and in the central district the other three nights. Will be doing the typical touristy attractions. This will be forth of July weekend if that makes a difference.

Also, any recommendations for a day hike in either Olympic or Mt. Rainier?

@catdad1 Been to both parks. Mt. Rainier is the better one. Make sure you go to Paradice inn on the east side. You are at the foot of the glacier. Just a great place to see. Also stop by the Space Needle for eats. For Olympia take a hike to Soduck falls Is a easy walk.

Parking downtown can be tricky like any downtown but it really hasn't been that terrible for me. It depends on time of day and day of week and where you are. Worst case you park farther away, take ride share, public transit, or pay for a garage/spot. Getting to the tourist areas from the Central district is a pretty straight shot on transit fwiw if you don't mind braving it. Tickets are easily purchased using your phone.

Day two: downtown area with the space needle, chihuly museum (octopus immediately reminded me of 888), and pike place along with great vegan food.

Mt. Rainier day trip tomorrow 😎
