IHM-45-BLK - Oiled Whipcord A2 Deck Jacket - Black
An oiled version of our A2 deck jacket, designed to enhance water resistance. Due to the nature of whipcord and its resistance to absorption, the heavy oiling increases the fabric’s weight from our standard 12oz to approximately 14oz. For this season’s models, we’ve updated the oiling process in an effort to find a more eco-friendly method. Previously, we used fluorine in the process , a toxic chemical that poses serious environmental risks. Now, a fluorine-free coating replaces this hazardous substance with a double layer of oil. This achieves the same level of water repellency as before but results in a slightly waxier hand feel—making this the heftiest version of our A2 to date.
First issued to US Navy sailors in the early 1960s, the A2 deck jacket was the natural successor to the iconic N1, utilising lighter-weight but equally functional materials. Its design incorporated the N1’s tried and tested features such as a heavy-duty zipper and hidden storm cuffs—but with a modified collar, hemline cinches and an added breast pocket for versatility. This Iron Heart take on a military classic remains very true to the original design, constructed with a tough, wind-resistant whipcord outer shell and a soft 100% wool lined interior.
The wool we've used to line the interior has been specifically chosen by Haraki-san for its unique characteristics. While the yarns are dyed in Nagoya, the knit itself has been shuttle woven in the textile capital of Japan, Osaka. The use of a traditional shuttle loom creates a much fluffier texture to improve heat retention, with the fabric brushed post-knit to achieve a hand feel akin to a vintage wool blanket. Unlike the quilted sleeve lining found on our N1 jackets, this wool lining extends throughout the body of the jacket and all the way down the sleeves - providing maximum warmth and comfort during the colder months, without losing the smooth feel when putting on and taking off the jacket. The lining extends all the way down the sleeves for maximum warmth and comfort during the colder months, whilst still ensuring a smooth feel when putting on and taking off the jacket.

For anyone who has a previous version, How does the wool lining feel on the arms with a short sleeve shirt? Scratchy or itchy at all?
-
@Travis2375 have last years unoiled version, doesnt feel scratchy like your thinking, i wouldnt say its abrasive but you know its not smooth material, its comfortable though
-
Last year's A2 is my absolute favorite jacket.
-
Interior pocket?
-
I dont see one
-
Looks great!
-
@Travis2375 thanks man … pity, I’d like one.
-
Anybody know what type of wool they use as lining?
-
Pretty sure they mentioned it being the same as last year’s IHM-39, but I could be wrong (and too lazy to fact check). If it’s the same:

-
@Travis2375 as @Sir_Cuffs-a-Lot mentioned, it's the same lining as last year's model, made from sheep wool (not the Alpaca blend found on the N1).
-
Is this as warm as the N1?
-
@TeflonDon I have the unoiled version and it is very warm not quite as warm as an n1 but close.
-
Is there any estimate on the release date for this?
-
@Travis2375 as Giles has outlined here, Iron Heart aim to provide a release date for any given item as soon as they can reliably do so. Until then I'm afraid everyone will have to remain patient.
-
@Travis2375 before Xmas

Is sizing the same as the Olive version from 2024?
-
@Rayados01 once the measurements are up you will be able to compare. The measurements will be added as soon as the jackets have been received and measured.
