Beautiful watch. I love the sword hands on this version.

I was in Melbourne yesterday, and I got to see the new Omega Railmasters.

The watch looks larger on my wrist in the photos. It only comes in a 38 mm case size; there isn't a 41 mm available, unlike other Aqua Terra models. It feels fairly chunky on the wrist. I would go for the grey dial with the centre seconds, as I think that it would be more versatile, particularly when paired with different straps.

I like it. The trouble is that Omega announced the Spirate system two years ago, which promised even better accuracy, and they haven't released it outside of one Speedmaster. I suspect that their range is going to be revamped in the next year or two, unless it's been one of those advances that didn't pan out.

Love me some Omegas. That center seconds fauxtina is a little heavy handed to my taste. I like all of the heritage inspired offerings they have put out lately, especially the Trilogy set they did a few years back. The trilogy speedy is just the perfect size imo.

@Graeme I saw them in person as well and I gotta say, the lume application was very sloppy on the models in the store. The watch felt nice but that’s a chunk of change for something that would irritate me.

@Heritage_Guy Omega has been doing good things with their heritage range. I like the CK 859 that they sold a few years ago, and I really should have got one.

@Anesthetist the lume looked OK on the watches I saw, but it's not as precise as some of the other Aqua Terra models. I guess it's for that "vintage charm", but it does sound like a QA issue.

That orange Unimatic is a cool watch.

I’ve been into watches longer than any other hobby, even taught myself to service and fix them. Lockdown was pretty dull for me!

In honour of my love of patina, but lack of patience, I am posting my IWC UTC Spitfire in Bronze. Unfortunately it’s got damp so is off for a service next week.

Also featuring Kersey shirt and 25oz 555s.

I really don't get the hard-ons about GMT's. I had a couple (may even still have one by accident). But most people can do basic arithmetic (@Matt accepted). I always have my watch on local, so if I am in NYC, I add 5, or LA, I add 8.

@Giles I am generally with you, though I love that particular UTC. Can do half hours too which isn’t always the case, an interesting thing even is almost entirely without a use case.

I think that can be said about watches in general though. The joy is in the thing.

I use very few of the complications from watches regularly, datevery often, time a bit less, chrono never, GMT maybe when trying to get my wife out the door for a flight.

What you write is true of most complications, tbh. When do you need a watch to tell you the date (or, god forbid, the date, day, and month...)? Or time something to the 1/10th of a second, etc, etc.

With this said, I have been zonked enough that I had to pull my phone out to check the time at home.

I think in the smart phone age that logic can be said of watches in general, they are not necessary at all.

It is just the man-child in me that gets excited to jump that hour hand to local time when the plane lands. The little things in life and all that.

True, though I feel lost when I do not have a watch that tells me the time on my wrist, I do use the date function quite a lot (though often after a short month it is days before I notice it's wrong), and I do use a Chronometer fairly regularly.

Is anyone here owning a Sinn 104 or the U50? How do these compare with respect to the dimensions? Both come in at 41mm and some 47 lug-to-lug. I'm considering getting one of these in the near term and would like to go for the one that wears smaller out of these two.

                                            Patek Cubitus

It looks better in reality than in the press photos. There has been a lot of criticism that it's too large, but it didn't feel oversized to me, and being a slim case meant it wore well.

At the same time, it doesn't feel as inspired as the Vacheron Constantin 222, which is also 20% cheaper. I'm not sure if I'd be able to get one. When I saw it earlier this year, the Melbourne boutique alone already had three hundred expressions of interest.

The Alpine Eagle would be another alternative, particularly the XPS with the LUC movement. However, my current favourite is the standard model in pink.
