@RobeOfTheMagi oh is that what that is? like a softer christy? i'm interested! of course i'm sure if they're more comfy, they're softer, and softer wont last as long. but i'd def be down for that trade-off.

      Hey mate!

I honestly don't know too much about this particular style of Vibram outsoles. It's the first resole for the mocs. As far as I understand the "morflex" ist the cushiest, most sneaker-like outsole.

When the local cobbler told me he was going to put Vibrams on the shoes I supposed they'd be quite like the originals. However, these really aren't. I don't mean that in a bad way; the soles are just very different, at least in weight.

The pair of boots in size 9.5 (US) is only 1100g (2,4lbs). They really wear like sneakers.

      Edit:

It's hard for me to evaluate how much softer they are compared to new original Red Wing soles. Mine felt like wooden soles after all the years. In that regard the Vibrams are waaaaaaay softer.

@RobeOfTheMagi I’m super interested in a softer, lighter sole for these. I like that they look the same and have those features, even if they don’t last as long. IMO , traction tred and og Christy last plenty long if you don’t drag feet, so if they last, say, 70% of that time, it’d be worth the cush and lightness.

Please keep us updated with durability!

Being an E width Red Wing fan in 2025 sucks, but when Red Wing takes eBay provides! I managed to find a deadstock pair of Hawthorn Mocs in my wide size. Even better they have the old fabric Irish Setter tongue tags. IMG_7109.jpeg

Harvester makes a nice change from the ubiquitous Iron Ranger… but they feel narrower!?

@NorvilleRogers Love those. There do seem to be variations in boots made on the same last. I've got a few pairs on the 8 last, same size but all fit slightly different.

@NorvilleRogers no IRs to compare with but I have two pairs of harvesters and the brown is definitely narrower than the black. Still, both are comfortable in their own way and I guess some variation is normal.

It feels almost a half size different, definitely cant fit a thick boot sock in there, but it’s nothing a few weeks of gentle pain won’t solve!

My Redwings after their spring cleaning and re-conditioning. I’ve had the Engineers for over 30 years now. I use them exclusively for riding. Lots of miles, several re-soles and a couple of repairs. But still excellent. I bought the Iron Rangers in 2007 - when they were re-released. They saw minimal use until this last year - when I finally got the toe boxes stretched a bit. I’m wearing them regularly now. The 606s are only a couple years old. This is my second pair of 606s. I find them very comfortable.

@NorvilleRogers My Merchant's are the snuggest fit and my Rover and 4585 Logger are a lot more spacious but they both feel different to each other as well. I wear a Darn Tough full cushion sock in those but would be too snug in the Merchant.
