Gardening, landscaping and plants in general

@chrisjohnnick same up in Portland but if we tent the beds with plastic we can usually get away with putting some things in around March

Same in the UK. Established gardening lore is that anything not frost-tolerant should not go out until May.
My favourite Magnolia has no buds on it this spring, just the stumpy bits where they connected to the branches. I think that we must have had a hard frost at some point through the winter. and that did for it. On a positive point, I expect it to grow more vigorously this year as a result....

Harvested a fresh box of worm castings yesterday and added to one of my 3 raised beds. Started to clean the tops off of pine needles and weeds.
Repotted three thyme plants I started indoors in December, and got my seeds ready. Need to finish raised bed maintenance which will just be topping off some fresh compost as I follow no-till.
Going to be planting some flowers for fresh cut this year for my girlfriend on top of all the food. Also trying to get a spot in the community garden to grow stuff that’s just space consuming.

I planted a few citrus plants this year in my yard.
This one is we locally call ‘limon sutil’ (translates to subtle, not sure why) but is more widely known as Peruvian lime.
At any rate, they ripen to a strong yellow color and are nearly perfect spheres. Outstanding on drinks and also on fish dishes.
This plant is only 60 cm tall and this one is the first fruit it has produced! -

Beautiful flower pic @Mister_Brue !

The best these roses bloom is from about 2 weeks ago to the middle of June when the heat and Japanese beetles get them.

All taken in my yard this morning.

@SFMCfranky Lovely flowers. First one is a great color.
-
Thanks,
It’s from that green succulent behind it. It only produces a few flowers a year on long, spindly stalks. But they’re stunning. -
@SFMCfranky Beautiful bearded Iris.
-
@twin that is a beautiful plant! Remember seeing it and gawking when I saw it my first time in college. Japanese maple? I think?
-
Thanks,
I can’t take any credit. They were here when I bought the place. There aren’t that many and they don’t bloom for long. But they sure put on a show when they do. -
@SFMCfranky My first iris of the year flowered yesterday:
Yours reminds me of an amazing collection I saw at Sissinghurst a couple of years ago.

Beautiful!

Beauties! Are they lilies?
I find they somewhat resemble orchids. 3 sepals, 3 petals, the lower petal is a highly modified petal. Anyone think so too? Or am I imagining things?
