@WhiskeySandwich The FIA and F1 has been on a backwards decline for a while. It feels like they are out of touch with fans and continue to drift further and further away. My guess is that it’s a top down leadership issue. Trying to suppress drivers showing personality. The shift to v6 and hybrids. The 2026 shift to a 50/50 hybrid split. The ban on active aero. To me, it all says “We are out of touch with what fans want and we don’t care.”
I’ve been happy to hear that they’ve considered bringing back the v10, and the addition of more active aero freedom in coming years. Maybe they’ll let the drivers be themselves at some point in the future as well.

@Go-For-Chill MBS is a POS like the other MBS

@Go-For-Chill yeah mbs will surely be out this year. I think the V10 thing was all in jest. It’s too good to be true, but it would also fuck with the whole deal teams have already begun developing for next year. I personally think the “sustainability and environmental impact” part of the motive is pure horseshit. It’s 20 cars every two weeks. While I get that motorsports drive innovation for road cars, this is the pinnacle of car racing and they shouldn’t be bound by hokey rules like this.
-
@WhiskeySandwich the problem I have with the V10 thing is the bait and switch so late in the game. It is extremely unprofessional to even entertain that kind of switch at this point. I only value electric for the instant torque, give me an ICE that wails like a banshee 11/10 times aside from that.
The problem I have with puritanical policing of speech is fuck that. Also, WRC and F1 drivers literally are putting their lives on the line. They don’t need that shit to worry about on the radio.
-
The story I heard with the v10 thing was that it would be a 2028-2030ish change if it happened. It wouldn’t affect the 2026 car specs. I for one would LOVE to see the hybrids go away and the v10s back. These 20 cars and the whole F1 organization’s only purpose for existing is to entertain us.
pokes F1 with stick Do something cool.
-
@Go-For-Chill that makes more, but maybe not total, sense. As a fan I’m for it. But I feel like they lured in manufacturers like Audi who would use F1 not just for marketing and sport but for development and it could be a bait and switch for them if hybrids are a major part of their roadmap.
As someone who favors the independent constructors and loves the sound of a V10 I have my own preferences but just thinking out loud about the economic implications.
-
@mclaincausey Personally, I don’t think the rules of F1 are going to have any effect whatsoever on Audi’s R&D for their mass production cars. I think that’s a load of marketing BS that F1 likes to tell fans to make us feel more connected to the production cars that the constructors are trying to sell.
-
Have they done an engine reg for that short a timeframe? It would shit on 2026 reg and not be much time to reach the performance ceiling.
Makes more sense to have longer ruleset eras. Minimum 4 years. I think they need to ease up and let the engineers have a bit more freedom. The rules should focus on creating close, competitive racing and less on influencing automotive trends.
-
@Go-For-Chill marketing ain’t BS. Lots of money. It’s part of their go to market panning presumably.

Remember the Audi RS6 V10? Seems mad looking back, and it's long gone, as is M5 V10 and even Lamborghini's. I'd love that era of F1 to return, but surely the PR would be fatally out of step with the zeitgeist. More's the pity.
Ferrari's 12 Cillindri engine is the same format as it's Le Mans winner. There's definitely a trickle down of tech, albeit pretty diluted by the time it makes it to our daily drivers.

@mclaincausey There is a Cars and Coffee at CotA tomorrow morning, if you’re in town. I will be going with my son for a little bit

@Danimal506 wow that sounds amazing. We may get out there!
Really wish Lando had had a better qualy. Hamilton too.

@Giles He’s just handing his championship opportunity to Oscar.
-
Man, Lando messed up my bet.
After the race edit: good comeback tho! That first corner swap should’ve been let go. That was just racing. Lunged force-off and a stolen recovery. Both moves were unclean and should’ve cancelled each other out. Without the penalty the second half would’ve been a lot more interesting too. Glad to see Charl back on the podium.

Some of this will be with the benefit of hindsight, but Oscar was alwa=ys going to be Lando's primary threat........
