I am also a victim of this thread

Same here - I have around a dozen new records that I wouldn't have sought out otherwise

Yesterday I had the chance to visit a record shop in my town that exists for more than 25 years, but is so out of my fairway that I’ve never visited it before.
Based in the cellar of a housing complex built around 1900, all the myths I heard before were fulfilled.
As there was only half an hour time before I had to pick up the kids from school, asked for the system the shop is organized and the quick answer was ‘better ask specific’ because 15.000 records are available, but only 5k displayed.
Had to skip all the beatiful first pressings of the Krautrock era (over 100€ is out of my price range).
So we got talking and I said that my grandparents found their home only one street away from his shop after they had to leave Breslau (today Poland) after WWII.
Like gates were opened, tons of recommendations were given.
Out of a lot totally unknown artists to me… only this two:

      IMG_0116.jpeg
Niemen from Poland - Enigmatic 1969

      IMG_0118.jpeg
Morgan - Brown Out, Italia 1973

Time was running out and I went totally overwhelmed.

Early Police old Police - it was only 6 years.

              The Beatles were 7 years.

@Bridger that’s funny I was going down memory lane with them after posting and realized how short their arc was…some incredible production in that span!

Edit: and amen, talent DOES get shit done!

The Police was one of the greatest rock trios of all time. They follow in the many mind-blowing UK rock super groups that have been the benchmarks of music.

I ,wholeheartedly, agree with you. An interesting category to ponder. For me the greatest rock trio of all time would have to be Cream. After that second is up for debate. Rush/Jimi Hendrix even The Police would have to be considered.

@Jett129 interesting category to ponder indeed!

Whenever I visit "the Hardrock Cafe" the most coveted item for me is Mitch Mitchell's kit. So for me the answer is JHE by a looooong way. Putting aside the trio thing, they are the only challenge to Zeppelin as the greatest rock band ever.

Other cool trio's to mention - Nivrana*, Motorhead, Beastie Boys, Dinosaur Jnr, YYYs, Violet Femmes, Silverchair, The Melvins, High on Fire, Them Crooked Vultures and ZZ Top.

@Bridger Good ones, and how could we forget ZZ TOP! At some point did Nirvana become a quartet, and if so does that disqualify them?

@Jett129 they were a trio at the time of their groundbreaking album so I think they count. I’m not sure either Bleach or In Utero had the second guitarist on them either, it might have been live only.

@GraemeE - msabaf is pure magic in the box. Talking heads are among my favourite artists but all that goodness was sometime hard to capture as a comprehensive set to an album. That time they definitely did it.

@Bridger @Jett129 fun subject and I’m with you guys on all the bands mentioned. I think ZZ Top is often overlooked…Billy Gibbons is soooo good. Can’t remember when but I was gifted a dvd of Cream’s reunion performance at the Royal Albert Hall and I became a huge fan after watching it (many times)
