@SourPower do you have mr lou to compare to the short stack shaft? I'm looking at doing a custom order, but thinking about going with a similar build except with a mr lou shaft circumference.

@bluemantra I hope these photos help! The first one is deceiving because of the perspective with the Lou in the background- in reality the Short Stacks are actually smaller in diameter! I always assumed they had a larger opening because of the boss configuration, but was surprised to find out that they are smaller when measured with a tape. I have to assume some of this is attributed to the handmade nature of these products, as well as the difference in thicknesses between Horween CXL and Maryam Horsebutt.

        Mr Lou 11.5E shaft circumference = 39.5cm
        Short Stack 11.5E shaft circumference = 38cm

@SourPower very helpful and very interesting results. I tightened my short stack top strap all the way and thought it looked really small as is. I wonder if the height matters as well. Looks like the taller engineers have an upward flair.

I'm wanting the short stack in british tan or a brown leather, but wouldn't want the shaft any larger due to the jeans I wear.

@bluemantra If you go full custom, the shaft diameter is something that you can request.

@goosehd yeah, i think i'm going to order an 8" boss with the shaft 1" smaller in diameter like the mr lou.

@bluemantra One thing you really need to consider going full custom is that for every alteration that you make, you are potentially making it more difficult to resell the boots later. The other issue is that customs inevitably cost more than off the shelf and you are very unlikely to get those extra costs back.

I have jeans that work great over my engineers, and some that don’t. In those instances, I just pick a different jean for the day. Pick a boot and style that works best with what you like to wear.

This is all assuming you haven’t went the custom route before…if you have, then you may have already experienced this.

Just my $.02 and trying to be helpful.

@goosehd trust me i've been agonizing over this before clicking the purchase button. Not to mention the wait time being 18 months.

I like the short stack olive boss engineers i have.

I want a brown pair. I want the wedge sole. this leaves me with going the custom route to get what i want. I don't like heeled boots. i've figured that out with trial and error.

@bluemantra …18 months is an estimate (Wesco) and I believe they are taking much longer than that.

My last pair of Wesco’s was closer to 2 years. I have a pair of Zerrows that are currently at the one year waiting mark, and my last pair of Lofgrens were about 14-15 months.

@goosehd yeah, that's a long time. I spoke with Bruce from Wesco and he said they've hired more people and they're making more boots a day and the time has been coming down.

I didn't forget, especially not since my build was identical to one released about a year ago here. Did Lou's in the natural mayram hh.

Whilst that is true, I am a great believer in buying stuff that you like, not what someone else may like in the future.

I see a lot of people buying shit and paying more regard to resale, than how much they actually like the thing.

Fuck that, enjoy everything you do or buy to the max......

I think I am the only person I know who has not made money on property, which in the UK is like impossible over the last 40 years. But I have loved living everywhere I have lived/live.

@bluemantra yes the rough out pair is BT boss from IH Germany.
only a few weeks old so the shaft is straight but i'm confident it will stay like that. my buddy have the same BT non rough out and the shaft is still straight after about 18 months.

the floppy shaft on the morrison is no issue at all, when you have your legs in and your jeans around it's fine 😉

                                74 or more…

@Giles is spot on here. Buy what you like, not what’s likely to sell. And FWIW when I’ve sold custom ordered boots I’ve had no issue making the sale, quite the contrary.

I have a question here for anyone that has a pair of lace ups and slip ons... do you go for the same size or need to adjust between the two, assuming they're in the same last? I love the look of Wesco's engineer boot, however when I tried one in the same size as my lace ups they had tremendous heel slip. It felt way beyond something that would go away with break in. I still want to give them another try so I'm thinking of going down a half size and up in width.

@Erin758 I think it really depends personally to person. While we do measure foot size in nice neat increments the reality is that no two feet are the same.

If you've tried the same size in engineers as you take in lace-ups and got too much heel slip then I'd say your plan of trying a half size down and going up in width is a good idea

@Erin758 yes I wear 10 in Mr Lou and 10.5 in lace up chukka. The Lou’s require thinner socks later in the day or on airplane (once the feet swell) or the toes get a little smashed, but it was worth it to avoid too much heel slip. But this will vary from foot to foot and based on individual preferences.
