Jordanscollected’s Hobby Farm

@motojobobo That's a great thought. She may be the protector of the barn while Hecate is just a playful cat.
-
@jordanscollected and you’ve probably already planned for this but I would recommend they both get spayed or you will unintentionally have a cat farm before you know it

In other farm news, Artemis has come out from hiding but it still very skittish. Neither of us have touched her yet, but she at least shows herself more often.

Winter update from Nightshade farm. A white Christmas turned green after a couple warm days, one with a lot of rain. The ducks and chickens were staying mostly in their enclosures but are feet over feathers to get out and forage for eggs and bugs, seeds and slugs.
The horses are back on pasture for at least half the day and full of energy.
Some dense fog has provided a pretty backdrop to what has been a mild winter this far. MN was over a month behind recording its first 1” snowfall.

@jordanscollected I’d really love to meditate under that copper pyramid too. That’s amazing!
-
@Fadez thanks Adam. A friend of our built it for us. Many people took turns sitting under it and all said they can feel a vibration when under it. I can too and I’m not big into the energy stuff. We use copper as well inside to help the indoor plants.

We were saying hi to the neighbors horses this weekend and we could hear an Arc coming from the electric fence. We dig down and found a crack in the wiring causing the issue. Our horses offered their services if needed of course.
We ended up replacing the whole line that goes under the gate, digging the trench a bit deeper.

Living in the country has its benefits, but also comes with some odd happenings.
Towards the end of our annual corned beef dinner with family, we hear a loud scratching coming from down the hall. Thinking it was our cat my SIL headed down the the hall to investigate, where upon opening the door to the garage she let out a blood curdling scream. Turns out there was a large musk rat standing on its hind legs scratching our door. The garage was shut so there’s no telling how long he had been in there. We left the garage open overnight but alas in the morning it was still hiding in the garage. off to tractor to get a live trap, and in about an hour we we had our man. We drove about 5 miles and let him out near a small pond.
In other farm news, the cats figured out how to get above the stalls.

That is a very large musk rat haha. Glad you got him and found him a new place to hang out.

@jordanscollected is that saffron in the package? Paella is also one of my all time favorite dishes. That looks delicious
-
Yes @Fadez it’s Saffron. So fragrant and delicious. One of the secrets is to toast it a bit first and crush it with your fingers into the paella. I fold it into foil and give it a few seconds in the flames before crushing.
Of course seafood is traditional in paella, but this version is chicken and smoked pork belly.

Backyard Chickens are a big deal in the U.S. right now. Everyone wants them as egg prices have skyrocketed. We pre-ordered chickens a month or so ago and yesterday was the preorder pickup day. We expected to be slick and move out with our chickens before the masses showed up. No such fuckin luck. We arrived to mass chaos at the hatchery and proceeded to stand in line for almost 2 hours until our turn to pick up our new chickens and ducks. Some must have waited 3-4 hours to get theirs.
No photos of the new chickens yet, we got back after dark and today they are huddled up in the coop dealing with new home trauma.
Anyhow, we got 3 new Cayuga ducks and one of our males immediately tried violently mating with it. For the time being we made a makeshift run out of chicken wire to separate the males.
Any tips for integration @WhiskeySandwich?

@jordanscollected that’s an armful of chickens!!
