I’m even rustier than you on time signatures, but the album notes may help. IMHO they’re probably just trying to be clever, but it’s a great album.

Do you guys keep your records in plastic covers?

I don't. I like the cardboard touch of the covers, the unrestricted view on the artwork and I don't care for the 'preciousness' of my collection (but also don't have many rare ones).

But if you do, you probably have good reasons. Please let me know.

@endo I don't usually keep the thicker plastic folders some records come in, but I do keep them in shrink wrap wherever possible. Not because of rarity or value as I don't have any particularly valuable records or ever plan to sell my collection anyway. It's just a simple case of OCD for me 😅

Edit: and after typing that out and thinking about it I don't even know what I'm expecting from the shrink wrap so it's probably just more habit than anything!

@endo yes, it avoids ring wear and damage to the covers. They’ve all been cleaned too.

It does take up more space than having them in the cardboard sleeves though.

@endo - no, but i store and handle them very carefully. i have vinyls i bought 35 years ago that are still immaculate, even without plastic cover. there are couple of japanese editions i have that came with a bit firmer plastic that doesnt bunch or tear easily, those i kept.

@endo I do on every record that comes into my collection

A majority of what I own aren't valuable first pressings (although they all have value to me)

When i get a record new, or previously owned, i always clean it, put it in a static free inner sleeve and put a brand new plastic cover on it.

This process is partly psychological for me - i find that if i take the time to go through this ritual before something gets to be on my shelf I end up treating my records with more care in general.

Obviousely it also helps me to prevent wear and tear on both the vinyl itself and the sleeve

Thanks. I appreciate your answers, gents. Seems there are rational and other reasons.
For me it's emotional. I love to hold my albums and will stick to not using plastic covers.
                                For now, who knows.

this one surely could have been kept better, but I own it for about 40 years, it has moved with me countless times and love it as it is

@endo I do. Obviously to help protect the record jacket but the biggest reason is being able to access the record itself a lot easier. I store it behind the record jacket so I don't have to fidget with opening the jacket at all. I have some really old records, and not needing to access the jacket so much helps ease the natural breakdown of the sleeve.

Anytime I want to enjoy the jacket, I just slide it out the record sleeve. Plus, I found it easier to slide in and out the shelf for some reason than the ones without a sleeve.

                                    I'm as ugly as you

@endo I was going to chime in but @GraemeE 's answer is pretty much mine too. The only thing I'd add is that I get peace of mind from knowing I've done what I can to take care of something I value. I'm always so amazed when I get a 60s or 70s pressing (usually from Japan) that is in immaculate condition and I enjoy being part of that cycle.

I'm listening to it on Amazon Music. The "2004 remastered edition", which surely is such an anti-punk concept, it makes me giggle.
