As a long-suffering Cubs fan, I can't relate to satisfaction with the "lovable loser" thing because our ownership was really taking advantage of fans who would accept mediocrity–but, it has been in some ways easier to have recent successes to think about, while also frustrating (the fact that the talent in this team has underperformed since the single title in over a century is maddening).

In the case of the Twins, right after taxpayers (whether they wanted to or not) subsidized that gorgeous ballpark, they had a chance to make a run in their final season in the Dome. They elected to make no moves before the trade deadline and failed to grab the brass ring that no one else in the AL Central wanted. That kind of buggery pisses me off, because it's a double tax: subsidies, and then at least $1 / oz beers, and what are you doing in return for the community that was extorted into subsidizing a billionaires pet vanity project?

      Think it, be it.

Yep, similar to the Vikings stadium that we subsidized. Can’t stand the Vikings, but then again, I was never a huge football fan. I’m guessing taxpayers helped foot the bill for the Minnesota Thunder stadium in St Paul as well

I agree. They are in a different marketplace to other Japanese brands, but I think design aesthetic has far overtaken quality in JP manufacturing (including electronics, hifi…). I can appreciate style and design, even if its not necessarily my own style, but when I look at the detail and finish of some brands, the price just does not match quality.

There is a huge amount of emperors new clothes in the market now, more than I've ever known.

I kind of like the KAWS companions but haven’t gone out of my way to buy one. As for the rest, I have a HumanMade drawstring bag that was a gift. I dont think I’ll be wearing a burger fart jacket soon though.

KAWS 'back in the day' when he was trying to make a name for himself, very solid concept, love it. Last few years, it's just been much more of the same - like a plateau into a working formula. Agree he's work is cute, I just don't see it's worth anything near what it goes for considering the trading on a single idea from however many years ago being executed.

Stuart, I'd say even the design aesthetic is over rated for all those brands. There's no much to it, trading on person's gravitas/brand.

fully touch screen only infotainment displays in cars are stupid and dangerous. it seems to be a popular with car makers and most car reviewers nowadays. most usually slag a car off if it's not fully touch screen and has a command knob of some sort.

No to crocs. Have never owned and will never own. My kids have them for wearing to and from the pool and such, and my wife has them for things like taking the dog out.

I’ll add this to the discussion. I think 99% of the hype shoes that are worn by sneakerheads (or whatever they are called) are hideous. Jordans, Yeezys, etc etc. Wouldn’t wear them if they were free.

I’m a reformed sneaker head, I’ve done the Jordan thing, never really did the Yeezy thing.

These days I’ve gone back to my skateboarding days with the Adidas originals.

Although I will say that my favourite sneakers of recent years are the Kith/ Clark’s Samba’s, so unbelievably comfortable.

I tried to join team croc last year, but they ended up giving me a nasty blister which later turned out be a staph infection ... not certain the crocs were to blame, but 2 weeks of barely being able to walk kinda killed my enthusiasm for them!

@Megatron1505 I do love a good collab between streetwear brands and more heritage footwear companies. I still get wear out of these Stussy x Timberland Chukkas and Stussy x Clarkes Wallabies I've had since I was a teenager occasionally, although both pairs are battered now!

@T4920 , for Crocs I stick with the Echo Slide for the unbelievable stack of foam. So comfortable after a hard day pushing paper and telling people what to do.

Those Stussy Wallabees are great, ahead of their time.

My sneaker rule is New Balance for summer, Adidas for Autumn/ Winter.
