Changed the double-seater bench for a (more comfortable and turnable) single seat. Easy, just some hassle with the build-in electronic safety devices (airbag sensors, belt pretensioner) but managed to get it going.

So now we are ready to go. Will be starting in a few hours towards Brittany.

Can’t wait to see some travel pics. Katie was preemptively mad at me last night at how much shenanigans we will be getting up to at the party when I told her about this.

We had a first good night in the van in Metz. Visited the gothic Cathedral, which is - due to it's 6500 m2 of painted windows - called 'God's Lantern'. Some of the windows are by Marc Chagall.

Then went on passed the fields of Verdun and circumnavigated Paris towards Normandy, where we saw the Bayeux Tapestry , an impressive 70m piece of embroidered cloth depicting the events leading to the Battle of Hastings. A medieval cartoon, so to speak.

And now we are standing with the van above Omaha Beach. Everyone seems to be preparing for next weeks 80th anniversary of D-Day. Lots of Americans here, probably more than French.

Today we drove passed Mont Saint Michel to Saint Malo. Had a great dinner with oysters and fish in the Old town.

Met a friend from home. The Gorch Fock‘s home port is Kiel.

Walked once back and force and back again and couldn’t believe how much information you can knit into one piece!

@endo super cool. Really enjoyed both Mont st Michel and St Malo when I was there, even though the moules frites I had on the last evening kept me up all night
