@goosehd I've only been wearing it for a few hours, but so far I am really enjoying it. It looks and feels very new... but that should take care of itself in time, and I think it's really going to age nicely. The dial size feel just perfect, and the build and material seem very solid and high quality. The matte finish of the bronze is very nice. Strap is comfortable. I love how thin this watch is (~9mm I think). If I had one complaint it would be that the lug-to-lug measurement is a little long. It would fit on my wrist a bit better if this measurement were a little shorter. And if I ever go without a nato strap, there is likely going to be a bit of a gap there. But I am perfectly happy with this strap. And overall, I am very happy with this watch.

My first ever Seiko. Beyond happy. Hopefully this is not the start of something. I’m happy being the ‘one seiko’ guy…

Here’s my initial thoughts on the Sistem 51 for those who may or may not care.

I’ve loved Swatches since I was 10 and wore two of them n the same wrist in middle school. I think getting an automatic watch that’s cool to look at for $100 is a steal. The fact that it isn’t serviceable doesn’t bother me in the slightest since I can just buy a new one if need be at that price. Though having just one Swatch kind of defeats the purpose

It’s a little noisy but I enjoy mechanical things that do mechanical things. The fact that it’s plastic isn’t a con for me, it’s lightweight and easy to wear. The strap plastic is also very smooth, like a G-Shock.

The ones I got are from eBay and are 10ish years old so they definitely last.

Fully automated construction in a proprietary Swiss facility with just 51 pieces is a pretty cool feat if you ask me.

Basically I love all the things most people hate about them. Perspective wins out here I guess. Highly recommend. I’ve got one in my mailbox right now and I can’t wait to see it.

Update: one more Sistem 51 today with 3 more en route. I was reading a Hodinkee article from 2016 when Swatch first release Irony modes with the Sistem 51 and apparently those and subsequent models are supposed to be serviceable which is a pretty big deal. I’m not sore of plastic models are or if the Blancpain models are though. I’d love to get one of those but I don’t want to pay $400+ and I can’t be surethe ones priced well on eBay are real.

              I’m still loving these…

@long_john86 Great choice! (Un)fortunately no one is the "one Seiko guy" ;). They're like guinea pigs, you cannot just have one :).

@long_john86 cool watch! I had several Seikos and they all were great even a vintage one that ran pretty well after a service. Enjoy it! It probably won't be your last one 🤣

@Matt they look so cool. Had the chance to buy a moonswatch in the verona store last year but hesitated what I now regret a little.

I recently purchased my first automatic after tripping and falling down the timepiece rabbit hole listening to podcasts on my way to The One Moto show.

I picked up this Makers Knot AT-38 from another forum. The seller was awesome and gave me a great deal on it, it also came fully serviced with timegraph specs, original box and strap

Another Hodinkee model. The face is actually a very soft grey that is really nice and the font of the numbers is neat. Got this and the green Hodinkee one for a combo deal that was too good to pass up…

Here’s the green with a blue California dial, pink accents and lime green hands. I’m already looking at my next one of these. Love them so much.

@Matt what's amazing about the Sistem 51 is that it is the first and only mechanical watch completely manufactured with an automated production (no human hand needed!)

I love everything about them. I like that the inside is hermetically sealed as well so even though it may not be serviceable there shouldn’t be much need for it. And all the pieces are held together with just the center pin.
