Today a coworker asked if I could help him for a bit as he had to go pickup some stuff he won at an auction. Turned out it was a warehouse full of old junk (shuttered restaurant equipment and small wares, chairs and old booths, why am I here?) and the pallet I audible made fun of when we arrived just so happened to have his name on it.

      It looked like this.

Plus we had a pull behind trailer with 2 crusty ass bookshelves and a filing cabinet.

It ain’t all horses and pizza in my world.

On a rainy Sunday I smoked curry chicken wings. Roasted broccoli with broccoli sprouts and homemade hummus.

We ate the wings with cilantro chutney and coconut Labneh.

Yeah, we ate off the sheet pan like savages.

Also made quick pickles and jarred some preserves lemons.

Always something going on in our kitchen.

Random fact that only a lawyer can tell you: Himalayan salt does not actually come from the Himalaya. It comes from a salt range quite far away from the mountains itself. The federal german court has ruled that the term 'Himalayan salt' is actually misleading and therefore prohibited under german law. There is salt which actually comes from the Himalaya, but that is not the pink stuff everyone refers to.
I'm sure the stuff you prepared with it was delicious, though!

I made stuffed zucchini last night. I start by halving and hallowing the zucchini into canoes. Then I par roast them for 15 minutes at 425.
I toast the breadcrumbs in olive oil and chopped garlic until they start to brown.

                      IMG_0367.jpeg

The filling is mushrooms sautéed with garlic, herbs and spices and then I add tomato sauce and a splash of red wine and cook it down almost dry. A little squeeze of lemon juice boosts up the flavor.

Fill the zucchini and top with the bread crumbs and bake 20 minutes at 375

And since we are random I grilled some uncured andouille on the side.

Fun fact (not sure how well this brand and its polarizing founder are outside the U.S.), we play with the My Pillow team. The original tiny factory was 200 yards from my house and is now been demolished and is an old folks home.

Mike Lindell often rides on the My Pillow float through our tiny town during the fall parade tossing pillows out like candy.

I guess the only reason he is known over here is because he's so polarizing...
Always wondered how comfortable that stuff is, and how durable. I thrashed many pillows filled with feathers, as I use oil based pomade, and that stuff will grease down any feather. But since I switched to sheep's wool (Texel based of course) all is well.

Yeah, his mouth sure gets him in trouble. I've never actually asked his son (who plays on the My Pillow team) his opinion on his dad's antics.

@jordanscollected dude! Are you just eating, like, the most amazing food every meal? Impressed. You obviously love to cook. I’m usually so wiped out after work, spending all that time in the kitchen kills me. We eat a lot of burritos around our house. Haha. Quick, simple, and I’ve got my flavor profile dialed to my liking.

In the easy chair with my boots on, melted whiskey in my hand. Could'na been asleep for more than three hours...time to go to work again...

@Mizmazzle Cooking and creating in the kitchen comes so easy to me after all these years that it's just second nature. I rarely use recipes, and that causes issues when someone wants to recreate something they loved at our house at home.

Our goal is to eat healthy food, organic and local as much as possible (summer farmers markets makes that much easier), and make it delicious of course. We aren't afraid of using copious amounts of healthy fat (clean label animal fats, avocado oil, coconut oil), salt to taste and use natural sweeteners (maple syrup, raw honey, maple sugar) instead of processed refined sugars when possible.

When I worked in the kitchen at an actual restaurant it had its benefits and it problems. I ate 2 meals a day at work (you basically have prepared foods around all the time get your little fingers in), but when I got home I was tired of cooking and didn't spend as much time creating at home (other factors like living situation weighed into that too). Now that I'm not a slave to prep and banquets, weddings, and ticket machines i have much more desire to cook at home.

My wife also went to culinary school and worked as a pastry chef for many years, so she is no slouch in the kitchen and does most of our baking (see my above note that I don't use recipes at home and see why baking is a challenge for me).

I couldn’t decide where best to post this (random love came to mind), but since I have the Wabash chore coat now this is good added content.

As you know I’m into playing pool. I’ve always had this thought in my head of having an Iron Heart pool cue but couldn’t really figure out how to make it happen. Adding a sticker wouldn’t do a ton imo though I wasn’t opposed to it.

Pool cues are typically wrapped in Irish linen. I considered trying to get an indigo dyed linen, but didn’t dig into it much.

Then my tiny 40 watt light bulb lit up.

My break/jump cue (only used for the initial break and jump shots) has a hybrid sport wrap. It’s like a soft foam and they don’t last very long before they show a ton of wear. The friction made during play and the oil from your skin destroys them over time and they need replacing. Mine was going on 5 years and looked like crap.

Back to my idea. I collaborated with the wonderful @Alex Padmore and procured a piece of natural veg tan leather (used in the bareback and pale rider me thinks).

The repair guy was hesitant about me supplying my own scrap of leather since he didn’t think it would be thick enough to fill the gap needed, and he would instead have to back fill it with epoxy or linen at an extra cost. Much to his surprise, the piece I provided was thick and supple and worked perfectly for the project.

Here is the cue before, during and after pics.

                                      IMG_0387.jpeg

Wrap removed, cleaning up the adhesive and preparing for the replacement.

This is as close as I’ll get to an IH pool cue, and I couldn’t be happier.

Thanks to @Graham for his assistance is getting it all sorted too.

I thought about that too @tody but the way the rubber cement is applied I’m afraid it would have seeped through and ruined the visual. Maybe when I rewrap my playing cue I’ll explore it more
