Opened my AXS app today…fall is looking real good!

Well tonight was unlike anything I have experienced before! SUNN O))) Shoshin (初心) Duo at the Barbican.

My seat was vibrating, my jacket was vibrating, my kidneys were vibrating, even parts of my anatomy I’ve never been aware of before were vibrating! But it was a lot of fun.

@T4920 huge thanks – it’s a shame it didn’t work out for you but I don’t think I’d have gone if it wasn’t for you.

Support from Jesse Sykes with Phil Wandscher and Bill Herzog was good, but in comparison not so memorable.

Btw I highly recommend you check out Jesse Sykes’ records — Marble Son and especially Like Love Lust(…) are fantastic. Jesse’s voice is so haunting and unique, and the full band setting really compliments it. Phil used to be in Whiskeytown way back when and I personally think he’s a criminally underrated guitarist.

Thanks for the recommendations for Jesse Sykes - I really liked her voice. All three were clearly talented but what came after was pretty much all destroying!

Same place, very different setup …

… and feels like more familiar territory. Mew have been popping up in my peripheral vision for years but I’ve never seen them before. They brought the Danish Chamber Orchestra with them tonight. Another great evening - felt like everyone was having a good time on and off stage.

They had an album years ago with J Mascis doing backup vocals in a few songs. I listened to that a ton.

@Matt I’ll have to look that album up. I’ve ended up enjoying quite a lot of music coming out of Denmark over the years, but after tonight Mew might have made it to 2nd favourite Danish band status.

Shame you couldn’t make it. I don’t think I realised what a big following they have when I booked - the timing just worked out for me. I’m usually hopeless with long range booking!

@ARNC Got me thinking of other interesting 'niche' acts you may enjoy, I've let opportunities to see Autechre and Oneohtrix Point Never at the Barbican pass me by previously, but when you opportunity comes again we should get tickets!

If you haven't heard it already, check out the Album 'Replica' by the latter, truly one of a kind, yet strangely familiar and nostalgic... It was made using many heavily distorted samples of commercials and clips from 80s and 90s television, so even if they don't register consciously, it ignites memories of the past deep within you!

And thinking of niche, have you ever checked out Obscurify? Not sure if it means anything but I’m quite proud of my 99% rating.

@ARNC I've just seen that too, but sadly I have plans this weekend.
OPN (Daniel Lopatin) is truly one of a kind, it's amazing to see him start working with mainstream artists like The Weeknd, and scoring films in recent years.

He worked closely with the Safdie brothers on the Uncut Gems OST (Amazing film!)
